Purfling
That purfling is going to look awesome and unique, Phil.
How did Mike make those purfling pieces? I'm assuming he cut some sort of plastic/acrylic art-deco rectangle into thin strips. Did Mike make the original art-deco piece by hand?

I have no idea, John! I'll try to find out. On other, similar build features (on other guitars, not mine) I know he found some of the acrylic and cut it for tuner buttons, etc.

Progress...
The beautiful end wedge set into the OM (blue spruce), binding now in place. The top purfling and binding on the OM (blue spruce). |

The purfling and binding on the Lucky Strike redwood top really pops! The lower bouts and depth are the main structural differences between the OM and OO. |

I'll find out and post it, but I believe it to be either rosewood or ebony. Whichever, Mike does a great job of assessing and matching any grain so the whole integrates with itself and the rest of the guitar.
I've long been impressed with his selection of color and grain to support the whole "concept" - whether it's a theme like these or a more generic array of wood appointments. Phil |

I have also been following this thread with great interest. Mike is such a talented designer, and your commission, Phil, has brought together so many things that clearly encourage him to push the boundaries that we all get to bear witness to the birth of some truly exceptional twins. What a treat!!
Keep the pictures coming!!

Quote:
The acrylic-like pieces that Mike used were cut from the single panel salvaged from the junk-pile of old set pieces in one of the backlots - I don't know which studio. Mike liked the colors and thought they would work well with the various wood colors and themes in these guitars. There was apparently some contention about how Mike obtained the cuts... on a visitor tour Mike noticed - and recognized - the panel from the screen for what it was, although he did not know about the movie. He casually put a few of the 10-11" pieces in his backpack and headed for an exit. But before he could make it out the door, the tour guide noticed him leaving, and gave chase. Mike had to make a quick decision - but as they were on the slightly elevated ground floor he made a dash for the window. He had just climbed out of the window when the guide grabbed him by the leg which was not yet through the window, and a tug of war ensued. Mike thought he was gaining ground, and then the guide pulled really hard on the leg - pretty much like I'm pulling your leg now.... I have no idea where Mike found the purfling material, but I thought I'd have a little fun at your expense! Cheerios, Phil |

Contact info?
Hey all. I don't want to butt in, but I am wondering if anyone has current contact info for Michael Baranik?
I have one of his fabulous guitars, from a trade here on the forum, and I'm hoping to get some info on it from him It appears his website is nonfunctional, at least it is for me… Any help greatly appreciated! Cheers Paul
