Default NGD - Takamine Limited Edition

Over the weekend, I became the new owner of an (extremely gently) used Takamine EF75M TT, OM sized acoustic guitar. These guitars were a release of 100 in the world in 2016.

They were patterned after the EF75S which were made from AAA Sitka spruce tops and Brazilian rosewood back and sides between 2006 and 2008. Only 80 per year of the EF75S's were made during those three years.

The EF75M TT guitars have a thermal heat treated spruce top, and Madagascar rosewood back and sides along with flamed maple binding and abalone purflings. I love the simple yet elegant "T" on the peghead, and the tuners are Gotoh gold butterbean style open tuners. The Takamine TLD-2 Line Driver palathetic pickup provides awesome plugged in sound. No barn door electronics on this one!!

This is a simply elegant guitar, not really blingy in any way. The acoustic unplugged sound is both sweet and woody, but also has a nice growl when you dig in some.

Takamine definitely makes some extraordinarily fine upper end guitars that while not inexpensive, would go toe to toe with many small shop guitars. I've only had it since Saturday afternoon, but let's just say I'm impressed!

Here are a few pics of this beauty!

That is one sweet looking guitar. Beautiful. I agree about the T on the peghead. Enjoy every note.

Jim,
SWEET!!
Having owned and researched Takamine guitars since the mid-1990’s I am fully aware of the legacy of these revered handmade Brazilian Takamine guitars.
The average guitar player may underestimate the sound, playability, craftsmanship, and quality of materials (including Gotoh tuners), that make up high end Takamine guitars.
I do believe your guitar is capable of standing toe to toe with with other guitars of similar construction.
I’m drooling of your newly acquired Tak.
Did I say SWEET? Yep!

Enjoy,
Blues

Congrats! That Tak is beautiful and I believe these models seem to be the pinnacle of what Takamine can do which is some amazing work.

I’ve become a big Takamine fan lately and although they under appreciated on this forum, I believe they can hang with and even exceed many of the big boys.

I hope you enjoy it!

Very attractive guitar! You are a neighbor sort of, I am in Princeton, TX. One thing I noticed from the beautiful pics is the saddle being split. Is that a feature particular to a model or Takamine or do other makers offer it? Does it improve the intonation that you can tell? But again, a wonderful looking instrument! Echo great pics too

Hey Reggie, yeah you're not too far away........

I know Takamine has long had the split saddle and they definitely say (and players would agree) that it does help and improve the intonation.

I currently have 3 Tak's, having just sold a fourth one about a month ago. I have other guitars as well, as you can tell by my signature, but the Tak's hold their own for sure. Now that I have one, I'm also a big fan of the Palathetic pickup system, which eliminates the barn door electronics and the sound is excellent!

Cheers!

Jim

Hey Blues, thanks for the comments and praise of the Taks. I'm very proud to own this one.

Just a clarification: mine is NOT Brazilian, but Madagascar rosewood. The EF75S model that they only made for three years from 2006-2008 had solid Brazilian back and sides. When they made this limited run in 2016 of the EF75M TT, they used the Madagascar. Very lovely rosewood nonetheless and no slouch compared to Brazilian in looks or tone.

She is a beauty and I look forward to spending a lot more time playing her!!
