GuitarTex in San Antonio. Very friendly people and extremely knowledgeable. For a small shop, they have a good inventory with some some exemplary instruments.

I played the bassoon in high school and remember going to Chuck Levins with my teacher to meet a local oboe professional and Mr. Levins. That must have been in the early 70's - glad to hear they are still a quality store!

The Music Outlet is in Sevierville TN. It’s about an hour drive from where I am in WNC. Well worth the drive if your in the market for a new Martin ,Gibson or Taylor...or other

When I go into Gryphon, I do buy tickets. Rather large though and they have D'Addario, Martin Retro, or JHS printed on them.

My favorites in the Bay Area are Gryphon (haven't been there in a few years, something I hope to remedy when this whole covid thing winds down) and Guitar Showcase in San Jose - they have a really nice acoustic room.

Music Folk in Webster Groves (suburb west of St Louis), is always helpful.

Magnolia Music in Gulfport, MS was always great, but I haven’t been there in 15 years.

I’m moving to upstate SC next week and I’ll be looking for a new favorite first store in the Greenville area.

I've never been to the Roseville one. How's it compare to the Burnsville location?

First met Bob when he owned a small shop in Leucadia (Traditional Music). The CVR location was Nirvana!

I live in the UK, so I don't have a great list of US based dealrs, but I talked with Stan Jay at Mandobros two or three times and felt the better for it - lovely guy.

I once visited The Music Emporium in Lexington which impressed me.

Also Hill Country guitars then in Wimberley. Impressed me.

I never went to Mass Street Music but did have the pleasure of meeting Jim Baggett when I went to meet up with Bill Collings - two great, enthusiastic guys, entertaining, informative and great friends.

I'd love to visit George Gruhn and Carters as long a that guy who played vintage guitars in a studded leather jacket stays away (gone to work for Gibson?)

We lost a lot of good specialist guitar stores in the UK in 2007/8 including the Acoustic Centre in London where I bough my first Collings guitar, and Guitar Junction in Worthing (which was a dream, run by a good friend back then) and surviving - Guitar Village (although their stock has shrunk markedly, and of course AGF sponsor Trevor Moyles at The Acoustic Music Company - with whom I've done quite a lot of business over the years.

I'd like to go to TFOA in the Nederlands too.

I'd love to visit

I know right? Everybody that has ever been to Chuck's has stories like these. They certainly buck the trend of becoming more specialized like most of the shops listed in this thread. They really are a general music gear megastore.

They have modernized the store quite a bit - years ago you would never guess this rather unattractive cinderblock building was home to the single largest music retailer in the US - and they kept that title until GC collectively became bigger than they were. A few years back they really spruced up the main floor of the building, and last year they gave the exterior a nice face lift.

Wrong question! What kind of wisdom can you get from Eric at Schoenberg vs. the Frank and the team at Gryphon? The answer is a ton!!

They are both high quality, and you can see their inventories on line.
