Default *sold* Martin CS-D18-12 Custom Adirondack / Sinker Mahogany / Hide Glue

For sale is a 2012 Martin Custom Shop CS-D18-12. This model features an Adirondack spruce top, with Sinker Mahogany back and sides (nice bear claw figuring on the Adi top and grain pattern on the Sinker back and sides), Golden Era bracing with full hide glue construction, in a 12-fret configuration. This guitar is outstandingly responsive, packs a punch with plenty of headroom, and is very comfortable due to the slope shoulder body and 12 fret design.

The guitar is in excellent condition with only minor marks / signs of use/handling. The frets are in excellent shape with minimal wear, and the saddle is tall with action right around 6/64" and 5/64" at the 12th fret. Neck angle is spot on.

AGF price is $sold

Smile YOWZA!!!

Mighty Nice Martin CS 12 fret SS 12 fret.

Please inform us on the hand carved custom shape neck.

Your pasted specs state pyramid bridge, but obviously not. Might want to double check them...

Best on this!

Stay vigilant and stay well

Paul

The neck is a very comfortable, medium thickness C shape. It's a vintage taper so it's 2 1/4" at the 12th fret, but the carve is very comfortable. One thing I noticed is that despite the wider taper, bar chords are extremely easy on this neck.

Beautiful instrument! I've always wondered if I would get disowned from the club if I got this and put a pickguard on it.

GLWS!

I owned one of these CS-D18-12 models briefly when I was considering selling my Martin D-1 Authentic 1931 back to the guy who sold it to me. If I was a flatpicker I would have kept the CS-D18-12 and stuck a pickguard on it because it was outstanding with a pick. Clear and balanced with great headroom as the OP pointed out. My particular D-1 A sounded just a little better with bare fingers, which is how I play most of the time.

Some other real positives for this guitar when compared to the D-1:
  • the sinker mahogany,
  • the wooden bindings instead of plastic,
  • the Waverly tuners instead of the cheaper Golden Age,
  • the 1-3/4" nut and 2-5/16" string spacing at the saddle,
  • it has a truss rod.

Great guitars. Best of luck with the sale.

I own one of these. Bought it new in 2013 and will never part with it. It's everything Matts67 and MCDEMO1 say. It's just an amazing Martin. It does everything,,, everything well.
I'm shocked it's not been snapped up yet. Someone is going to be quite happy !

Good luck with your sale

Smile Two things…

Two things…

It appears it has lost its fossilized walrus ivory bridge pins, there's no picture of the end pin.

Also, the clear pick guard has been invented. And the flamenco style ones do not affect tone and volume at all as far as I can tell…

I don't need this and it's still tempting

Cheers

Paul

There are cannons and there are railguns... this is more like the latter.

This guitar is indeed a beast. I was playing it last night notes just explode out of it like no other. I just wish I got along with the vintage taper neck, so much like the outstanding Preston Thompson I recently sold, this one must go to someone who can appreciate it.

It pains me to see that this one has not yet sold. So much in fact that it's tempting me, and I already have one of the 75!

Just to add a bit more well-deserved praise: the sinker mahogany brings what I will describe as a prewar D-18 similarity. It has the tone, performance, and power that's unobtainable elsewhere for anywhere near this price.

FWIW, I added a quality pickguard to mine and believe me, there was no tonal suffering!
