Pretty much the same experience I had. I might try the Sunbeams again too because the first week was typically great.

The difference due to their construction makes sense. A round core will let the windings vibrate differently than hex core which tends to grab onto the windings.

the DR Veritas strings for acoustic and electric are all I am using now. Nothing better out there IMO!

I love Sunbeams, I always seem to like lower tension/more flexible strings. To my ear they sound great.
I wasn’t that impressed by DR Rares though. Nothing wrong with them, just seemed average to me. YMMV.

I have used the Sunbeams for several years and really liked them. I switched from the Rares.
Just to stoke the fire, I got some free Veritas strings to try. Put them on my Mossman Dread and like them a lot. May try a pair of Veritas on some of my other guitars, just for kicks. Jack

I have two cases (24 sets) of the Veritas in medium gauge that I won in a contest. Too bad I don't use them. I have tried all the other DR strings mentioned though and didn't care for them.

I need to try Sunbeams again. I tried them once, but not realizing they were round core, I cut the ends prematurely, and the low strings unraveled immediately. I've been playing DR Rare on my two Mahogany body guitars, and liked them fine. But I've recently switched over to GHS strings, and they sound even better. Lots of great strings choices out there... just need to find the ones that pair best with your guitar and ears!

I’ve tried them all. Rares, pre-alloys (which I don’t think they make anymore), Veritas, etc... they’re all quality strings...
...but the Sunbeams are special. |

So I’ve been running Rares on my Taylor 314 to tame the sizzle a bit and they seem to do that (wasn’t all that sizzly to begin with), but otherwise, nothing exceptional about them... they’re fine strings but not knocking my socks off ... for you fans of the Sunbeam ‘lushness’ - does anyone have any experience with them on the likes of a Taylor 314? Wonder if I should check them out ...

As the Rares are settling in I'm finding myself wanting to go back to Sunbeams.
The Rares are OK ... but Sunbeams are special.

I'm telling you, you have to try some Newtone Heritage though. Or have you already?

Still have a set of the Newtone custom gauge nickel plated round cores I ordered too .. I matched the gauges with the Martin Titaniums you and I both liked! This Epiphone EJ-200 I bought last year has been a kind of freaky good experience for me. In perfect tune in the shop - crazy good condition - bone saddle made it better - bone pins made it even better again - DR Sunbeams took it even higher. I can't believe my luck with this thing ... I'm half expecting to wake up and find the neck snapped off or something.
