Ugh!
Had to turn it off. Don't like guitarists who's thing is, "Hey everyone, look how fast I can play." Speed is for sports. Me, I prefer music that is musical. As always, YMMV. If you like it, then you like it. No problem. Enjoy it. |

I liked it better on electric but hey, the man can play.

He's still got it at 73. Here he was at 24:

Not really my thing either - sounds more like noise than music to me, not really something I can enjoy.

I like that he's not playing Hocus Pocus, he's more playing around the tune. Kind of a jazz approach.

Heard enuf. Music isn't a PC - it's all equal - kinda thing. There's plenty of music from many genre that just ain't for me. No apologies. Last edited by Tico; 09-07-2020 at 07:57 AM. |

You have every right to your opinion and taste, but I don't think it's fair to judge this as mere showing off. Kinda like listening to a slow piece with beautiful tone and exclaiming, "I don't like guitarists whose thing is 'look how nice my tone is'."

I totally agree on this, there's just some things that don't translate well to acoustic (and vice versa). I'm working on the vice versa, everything i transfer over from acoustic to electric just doesn't work.
I think the technique needs to change, as well as the melody selection(s) My own experience and opinions. MGF |

I have seen him live twice, both in the 80s, performing solo gigs. On the first occasion he appeared to be making up the music as he went along, the first set on acoustic nylon strung guitar, the second set was solo on electric. He seemed to have no real regard for the audience which was a shame. Technically a lot of the playing was very high level but far beyond my comprehension. During the second show I saw some years later, he played exclusively electric & performed about 4 Focus compositions which showed some real warm & rich playing not just showing off his speed - which is pretty mind-blowing. Thanks for posting the clip of Sylvia I really enjoyed that & it showcases some really nice playing. Super! Pick on Slim
