Default Really Would Love Advice On Fiber!

Hi All--

So I've decided it's time to get a fiber guitar!

I take my nice guitars out too much.

I can't figure out the size I want, or the brand, and I'm not near places where I can try them out...

Here's who I am / what I'm looking for:

I'm a rabbi, so I end up needing a guitar a lot for groups of people; usually around 20-40. My dreadnoughts are all loud enough, without question (Santa Cruz and Taylor). That being said, if I can get away with a different size (OM or Jumbo), I'd be interested in trying out a new body shape.

I don't really care about electronics. If it's a big enough group that I need electronics, I'd rather play my Santa Cruz, anyway.

This is the guitar I want to carry with me everywhere. I also want it to transport well, as I have a fellowship that's going to take me out of the country for the next four summers with my family..

I played the CA Cargo, and while it was a great cargo guitar, I don't want a cargo. It's too limited an instrument.

Advice?

Rainsong? Composite Acoustics?

I'd like to buy used, as well. I have twins girls on the way, so I'm looking for the best bargain, as much as anything else.

If anyone has advice on where I might find a used one, that would be appreciated as well.

Thanks greatly!

Rabbi,

Shalom and welcome to the forum! If you go to the MacNichols Guitar forum you will find used carbon fiber guitars there. I suggest you may want to find some way to try the different models out. MacNichols offers road trip guitars where you can try a guitar for a week.

I must say I am partial to the Rainsong Shorty. I travel to Boston with it frequently, as my mother is at Hebrew Rehab. I play for the residents and the guitar is warm and has great volume. It travels easily too, though I am hoping that Reunion Blues will come out with a Parlor sized gig bag. Much lighter option.

Barb and Penny on the MacNichol forum are quite involved in performing in similar situations as you, and I am sure they can be quite helpful as well.

For groups of 20 to 40 persons, you really need a loud-guitar, if you prefer without electronics...

If the size of the Composite-Acoustics Legacy dreadnought is not too travel-friendly for you, maybe try the smaller-sized Emerald X20-OS or the Blackbird Super OM ? These are slightly smaller, yet loud... some call them "sound-canons" ...

Both Ted at LA Guitar Sales and Mike at Macnichols have given me excellent knowledgeable advice on the phone on the suitability of different Carbon Fiber models. We are fortunate to have such excellent dealers that are more concerned with the customer ending up with the right instrument than with just making a sale.
Give them a call.

Ted at LA Guitars and Michael at MacNichols are just wonderful to deal with. Both have interesting stocks of customized carbon fiber guitars. No better selection anywhere!

I'm a pastor, so I understand some of your needs. My preference is a Rainsong OM1000 with the original N1 neck - much closer to your Taylor neck than the N2. Durable, light weight, sweet sound and great volume.

Listen to Mr. Ed: I really do think the OM 1000 is a great versatile body size of Rainsong. Hard to go wrong. I just acquired the new Parlor and absolutely love it. Its my take everywhere guitar and travel guitar. I just sold my OM1000 because of the Parlor but fully admit the OM 1000 would be a little more versatile. Just have bonded with the Parlor. Love is a fickle thing.

Wow, that's super !
Was about to update you that Cort Gautier was looking to unload his Blackbird Super OM, when I saw your note.
In any case, I rejoice with you !
That's a wonderful sound canon

You very obviously need a doubled necked 6/12 string Emerald like the forum's own Doubleneck plays. It's an amazing guitar.

Oops, just saw you ordered a Blackbird. Very nice guitar.
