Gibson CL-20
I have a friend who purchased a Gibson CL-20 with an internal pickup installed. He purchased it from the original owner. He didn't know it had a pickup until he got the guitar home. When plugged in it makes a somewhat loud hum type noise. The local guitar shop told him to take fine sandpaper and go inside the female plug and lightly clean it. He tried that and he thought it was better but only for a short time. I have not heard it or played it plugged in yet.
Would anyone know what Gibson would have used for a pickup in this guitar? Possibly any remedies we can try to solve this problem? He said there's no battery inside so we can eliminate that. Thanks, REV

H Rev, if your friend can provide some photos on the actual pickup and any controls (even in the soundhole) that may help the process. Gibson tends to change pickup provider for a few times over the years so manufacturing year may also help

CL-20 Pickup
I'll have him see if he can get some pictures. I pretty sure there are no external knobs or adjustments or sound hole adjustments either.
