Default Talk me out of this Gretsch?

I saw this P90 equipped Gretsch at my local GC. It plays like a dream and I was in love with the tone. Quality control seemed good. So, somebody talk me out of this?

Go back to GC, A/B it against one of these, and you decide which one sounds/feels/plays/looks more like a Gretsch:

There's also this mint-condition (looks like NOS to me) made-in-Korea beauty with OHSC:

- and if you're the kind of player who thinks a bit outside the box and/or needs a "Swiss Army" semi-hollow, this one'll cover all the iconic Gretsch tones, as well as a few you'll never get from any other guitar:

Thanks Steve! Actually, I think it's the P90s that attract me to it. I did get a chance to A/B it against the orange 5422t like in your link and thought the P90s had a bit more bite to it, though perhaps with a little less sparkle. Fit and finish were similar.

I have also owned a two pickup version of if the green one in your bottom link. Actually, I have owned maybe 6 or 7 of the 54xx or 56xx series guitars over the years and only my 12 string and my 4 string bass have stayed (so far). I'm a huge P90 fan. It's my favorite pickup overall.

I was eyeing the exact same guitar earlier today! I can’t talk you out of it. The P90s are making me look and listen. I imagine myself sounding like Eddie Cochran or Darrell Higham with his P90-equipped 6120, but I won’t.

This is what I use for the harder/edgier stuff:

FYI Gibson only made these goldtop/P-90 Tributes for a short time around 2011, and if you can find one for a reasonable price grab it (I've turned down $1500 for mine): looks like an under-the-bed '56 that got put away when Elvis got out of the Army (that PRS-style revealed "binding" is a nice touch), and thanks to the weight-relieved body it's not only relatively lightweight but acoustically resonant as well - BTW Dru also owns one and loves it, and not without good reason...

Those look to be really nice guitars. I own a Les Paul Special with P90s and I own a Les Paul that is rigged with Phat Cat P90s, though they don't sound like a typical P90.

Yeah, you’re in the wrong place if you think we’ll do that. We’re just a bunch of enablers.

Well, I went and did it! I played the P90 version (5627t-P90) and I played the 5622t, as well as two of the Epiphone Casino guitars with P90s. I liked the 5622t, and I knew I would. I had one previously which had the Super Hilotron pickups in it or broadtrons, can't remember. This one (I think) had black top filtertrons. Either way, as I figured, the P90 version had more snap to it than the filtertrons/broadtrons. The Casino had its own thing goin on and sounded good, but it seemed like a step down quality wise from the Gretsch.

The weird thing is that I have only found the Gretsch on the Musicians Friend and Guitar Center websites. It's not even shown on the Gretsch web page? I am unsure of what quality the P90s are, as the MF and GC websites say it's a Humbucker.

Anyway, it followed me home. Will post pics later.

Talk you out of a Gretsch? That's like talking you out of happiness.

Very cool! Congrats! That's not something you see every day!

P-90s are probably my favorite pickup. Beefier than a single coil, a bit brighter than a humbucker. Hopefully your guitar has good volume and tone pots with useful tapers, because for me the real magic of P-90s is found in all the available shades of volume and tone. Full on is great of course but there are some great tones available with the volume backed off.

I have one of the Les Paul Studio tributes mentioned above. GREAT guitars for the money. I've been tempted to flip it for one of the newer Les Pauls Specials though.
