In a shot of the fretboard early on you show a proportional divider. What do you use it for?

Nice work!

I believe to find the location of the side position markers relative to the fret slots.

Sorry - have never been able to figure out photos on this site even though having no problems on others. The tool in the lower left in this shot of fretboards is a proportional divider. It has a movable hinge so you can take the dimension between the tips on one end and translate it to multiples or fractions of that dimension at the other set of tips. It is a way to increase or decrease the size of dimensions by a known amount.

Bob has it right. See above. It's used to locate the side dots.

So he is just using it as a divider? I have and use one, but never for this, so I am interested in a new use for an old tool.

Juston -

Did you go with the 25.6 scale length? I have that in a few Brondels and like it especially for finger style because there is more space ti play with, especially up the neck. I keep the action a bit lowish for a classical type technique and it seems to work pretty. Although the lower action does seem to bleed bit of power off the guitar.

I get the sense from some of your posts that you are one of those hard pickin' fellas. This guitar will fit right in!

Best -
John

John, I prefer guitars with longer scale length, so I usually opt for 25.4-25.6" when given the choice. I also keep the action sort of high to maximize clarity and more or less eliminate fret buzz. My bass side is usually around 0.095-0.100" and the treble side is 0.070" with relief set somewhere between 0.004-0.006." I've played guitars that are set up lower and, while they do feel a little easier to play, I absolutely hate fret buzz or any kind of diminishment in power.

Yeah, I'm pretty hard picking for a fingerpicking guy. I hit hard with the thumb and the fingerpicks, which is why I like loud guitars with plenty of headroom.

Braces = adolescence = adulthood is just around the corner!

Hang in there dude, it looks like it will definitely be worth the wait.

(Maybe by then you'll learn how to sustain an adult conversation.)

Adult conversations are overrated. I’m immature and happy.

As a new owner of a Brondel A-2, I now understand what the fuss is all about. I TOTALLY understand why you would want...I mean need...three of them, Juston.
