Koa for me

I own a Spruce / Walnut. I like the spruce but the mahogany is great. I could have bought the Koa - which is stunning g looking - but I felt it was thin and lacked bass. For a small guitar, I wanted all the bass I could get. The one I bought delivered.

I’ve owned all three, and currently own a Koa version, but I voted hog as to my ear it had the best overall sound. I love the looks of the Koa, but the sound isn’t quite as pleasant as the hogs I owned.

Another mahogany vote here. I had played all three tops several times in shops and always preferred Mahogany (which surprised me). When the time came to purchase I tried again but the Mahogany still just talked to me more. I find it has an unusual combination of warmth, depth, but is still articulate (something that I often find lacking in other guitars that project "warmth".) I plan to try recording with it soon. I've got a hunch its nice balance and bit of compression may translate well in a recordings. (That Koa sure is pretty though....I was lucky enough to find a mahogany top I thought nice enough. No, it's not Koa, but if I could download a higher rez pic than AGF allows the grain and detail would pop more than the pic below)

I gave my sister my Holden Village Spruce Top GS Mini when she moved to Washington State. It's still the best GS Mini I've played to date.

It sure is a good-looking Mahogany top GS Mini! Can be easily passed off as a Koa too... Great choice!

Mahogany, hands down. It mellows out the tone and looks beautiful. My 25 year old granddaughter currently has it out on the left coast in the Navy. She thinks it's the greatest guitar in the world.

Wow! You must be real proud of your granddaughter! Yes, it is the one of the greatest guitar in the world...in its price range. It took the world by storm sometime in 2013/2014.

I've never played a GS Mini I didn't love.
I did love some more than others. I really, really liked the mahogany ones.

Thank you to your family and to her for her service. She deserves the greatest guitar in the world!
