New Song (It's Killin' Me') 1964 J45

This is a song I wrote to answer a question my son asked me which was... "Hey dad, did you ever feel like you made a mistake quitting your job to be a fulltime musician". Well when I first started out, I took every gig that came my way just to pay the bills, and man did I play in some dives!!! Fortunately I worked my way out of those types of gigs and got some pretty sweet ones But I remember standing on those stages and saying... How in the h*ll did I wind up here! And in another thread here on the forum a member asked about what reso would be good to learn slide guitar on and I just answered to try it on his acoustic guitar first before spending money on a reso so that inspired me to play slide on the J45.




And for those of you guys that have problems with my sometimes unintelligible dirty voice, but do want to know what I'm singing...

It's Killin' Me / Weldon 2018

I'm holed up in a flea bag, two-bit motel
two-gigs in a dive bar, just to pay my way home
my old car is broken, on the side of the road
I need the money, for a bus ticket home

I stare out at the bar-room, from the ram shackle stage

yep there's more than a few within driving distance, although someone of the actual memories that I'm pulling from here are bars that were in southern Idaho.

Hi John, I bet yours does sound similar! Those old Gibsons have quite a distinct sound, especially the early 60's models!

Does yours have the adjustable bridge with the ceramic saddle or the fixed bridge? Mine used to have the adjustable bridge, but I didn't like the radius on the ceramic saddle, so I had my very talented luthier friend swap the whole thing out for a fixed bridge, with a bone saddle. It doesn't sound any better, although it does sounds different, but now the radius is perfect, and there's less buzz at the bridge end

J45's are my favorite guitar, the old one to record with, and a 50's reissue for live gigging!
