Default You can't do that!

It was late after a day of messing around with my new electric guitar, but I still felt like playing a little before bed, so on a whim I plugged my Martin CEO7 equipped with a K&K pure mini and a rubber soundhole plug directly into my electric guitar amp, an Ibanez T5A15H with its matching 12" cabinet and built-in Tubescreamer circuit turned about a quarter of the way up.

The EQ was flat and at that level the Tubescreamer adds just the slightest hint of grit, but holy smokes the sound was amazing. It wasn't acoustically accurate, but it was so delicious! I really had no idea. It honestly makes me want to mic the thing at shows. So dynamic and alive.

And so incredibly simple. I'm blown away.

I am and have always been of the "if it feels
good do it ..if it feels better do it again" school of thought..

I've used a Tube Screamer at gigs when I cover classic rock leads. It worked great (as long as the volume at my guitar was not too loud), but somewhere along the line I got out of the habit of bringing one to gigs (probably sometime after I sold my T5z and resumed using a RainSong).

For years many people used plain 'ole electric guitar amps for acoustic amps and they sounded great. I thought about picking up my favorite electric amp to give it a try as an acoustic amp (a Fender Princeton Reverb RI) until I actually physically picked it up and remember just how heavy electric guitar amps are! I'm just too old to schlep heavy gear around!

I see a lot of the young kids playing their acoustics through electric guitar amps at smaller open mics that don't offer a PA. They typically sound pretty awful but I think that is more a case of awful guitars, awful pickups and awful amps combined with awful playing!

do vocals and guitar through a fender champ.
His talent was good but boy did he sound bad.

Before I got my Fishman Loudbox I plugged my acoustic into a Fender Hot Rod amp. I didn’t realize how awful it sounded until I played through the Loudbox.

Jon Gomm has about three different pickups in his guitar and one of them is a magnetic pickup at the soundhole. That one has an overdrive pedal available in his pedalboard. The different sources are blended together at some later point.

He sounded awesome .

I've got a Tubescreamer clone on my pedal board, and it can induce some nice sustain to an acoustic lead.
