I have a 1966 Gibson ES 335 that my dad surprised me with when he picked me up from school. He signed the note at a local shop and my mom took most of my gig money each weekend and mailed it to the shop.
I think it cost $375 in 1966. |

* I have two that I will pass on to my kidos:
Martin D18 and MIJ Takamine KC70. * I’ve already given them several of my past guitars including a Lowden, Avalon, Guild, LesPaul, Strat and more! * My other two Taks take the brunt of my work as a full time musician, so they’ll eventually need replacing as they take a beating between my percussive style and the tropical elements they are continually subjected to.

I don't think so. I'm 72 and so far, I've had 2 surgeries on my left hand. I don't know how long it will last but I think I'll outlive my guitar playing days.
When it's over, I'll have fun selling them off one at a time. If I should go suddenly, I've told my wife to just take the guitars to Music Zoo and not worry about what they give her for them. Life is good, and playing with friends is fun, but I'm not so sure how long it will last. |

Maybe this is naive, but I plan on keeping all of them. I don't want to own it if it is not a permanent keeper. My oldest son has told me never to sell the '93 Gibson.

My Bourgeois AT Vintage D BK is going nowhere! Most amazing guitar I’ve ever played. The D41 is a keeper too! I’d get rid of the GS Mini, in a heartbeat, but my kids like to noodle around on it, from time to time, so it’s got to stay.

Yes, unless something happens to it my Guild D-20. My wife bought it for me. I don't get rid of gifts.

Without question my early-mid 90’s Martin HD28vs. Christmas gift from my wife after I raved about playing it at Mandolin Bros.
She has a knack for storing away information like that and surprising people. She made fast friends with fellow Penn Stater Stan Jay….

I'll probably keep most of my guitars but my 2012 Taylor GA BTO acoustic and 1999 Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus LTD electric will always be here.

My strat, almost for sure. I've been playing strats almost exclusively among electrics since I got my first one in 1979, the one I have now is the best I've ever owned and as good as any I've played. Can't imagine what it would take to make me think about replacing it.
Either or both of my Martins are a possibility, but not a sure thing. I can say if I never replaced either of them, they could happily get me through the years I have left. But I'm in line for a Pre-War 00 or 000, which could definitely replace one of them and, if it's good enough, may replace both. But if I don't like it a LOT more than the Martin it's similar to, I could get my money back out of that and play those two Martins for as long as I live. I don't have any curiosity about anything else out there other than a Pre-War... -Ray

My wife orchestrated among family and friends a group purchase of my Guild D-40 Traditional for my 30th. She even sold her little Chevette she had stored too afford it. Never will I ever sell it, that's not even a thought that will ever be had.
My Godin 5th Ave non electric doesn't get played anymore but I wrote a lot of songs on it through turbulent times of my teens and early adulthood. Far too sentimental to get rid of. |

Easy one for me. My '64 F212, one owner guitar. My mom bought it for me in August '65, mostly because after five years on really low end guitars I was still playing and she knew it wasn't just a phase. After 57 years together, it is the one guitar I would reach for in case of a catastrophe, and one I can't imagine ever selling.

I have 4…
These have passed the test of 'time' and 'use'… I also have an inexpensive Squire Telecaster which I swapped the Duncan 'designed' neck pickup for an actual Seymour Duncan humbucker (pull switch to single coil) and the generic tail pickup with a Lace Burgundy (with a lime green housing). It's only been in the arsenal for 10 years, but it's not going anywhere. It was a $305 Made-In-India purchase in 2012. It has an Indian Red Cedar body (it's painted black), which is one of the heaviest Telecasters I've ever played. Sustain is in the 'forever' category. The Lace Burgundy in the bridge is a little fatter sounding than the stock generic one. As you can tell - I keep the ones I like. |
