The house just received a D45V to compliment the 0001 maple 12 and OM2HA Collings. I should be good for a while.

In my sights:

A 14-fret Martin 00 or 000 from the late 1930's to mid 1940's.
Mahogany or rosewood, either is fine as long as it's got The Tone, and I'll know it when I hear it.

Lately a Waterloo WL-K or a Fraulini Emra… I guess it’s good for my bank account the neither are easy to get your hands on.

I haven't been seriously looking for another guitar for a couple of years now. Sure, I still want everything I see, but I went through a ton of guitars to arrive at my current stable and I'm happy where I am. For now - no promises.

But...but...brencat...

If that D-18A '37 VTS is rich/lush sounding, then it won't be "authentic" sounding to an actual '37 D-18.

Neither would a Merrill C-18 for that matter. {;-)

What guitar are you thinking about buying/trading for and why?
I've been getting a yen for a 12-string.

On order: Aboudib 7 string, Wilborn Nautilus, and Michael Kennedy "half baritone".

Eyeing: Applegate cedar SJ.

Those should be enough for a while.

Though I don't need another guitar, I have a 12 fret D18 on order. It should be done in about 18 months. I'd also like to add an oval hole mandolin, but that's years out as well.

On the acoustic side I'm really considering a Larrivee D-03. The only question that I've yet to resolve is whether my money would be better spent on a Martin D-18. I know the Martin would cost about $700 more--I can swing that, but I don't know that I would enjoy it more.

On the electric side, my "grail" Strat is an Eric Johnson signature model. But I'm not sure it would be a significant upgrade over the Strats I currently own.

Waterloo WLS Deluxe. Has been for a good while. Chances of finding one at a realistic price (if at all) = zero

I have a Madi/Adi torrified dread on order, due later this year. And two months ago, I made an impulse buy on a Maple/Euro Spruce GA guitar, so that should keep me covered through 2022, at least. In fact, I probably should let 1-2 go that don't get enough playing time.

Tom I’m heading down the road you are thinking about.

In my experience it was very worth it to buy a luthier $8 to $12k vs having three or four $4k guitars (I’m quoting new prices across the board). I thought I would hit the point of diminishing returns by reaching up but I have not, at least not yet.

It has definitely not been more stressful for me, I’ve just enjoyed it more. I’m just more careful with the very high end guitars (but I’m generally careful with them all).

Good luck in your journey!

Barry, I’m not sure if you will see this, but I have an all Koa McIlroy for sale in a store in MD, if I still have it and you come to the DC are let me know!

Besides you and I, how many others on this planet have a Pellerin and McIlroy. My guess is zero : )
