Is that a scratch below the lower tonebar on the right side? The bridgeplate looks a bit odd. Almost looks like it's splitting along the grain.

I had some correspondence with Carolyn at SCGC this week. The current wave of “Cron” is slowing things down a bit in their shop due to safe operating protocols. Unlike a solo luthier shop that can work in isolation, they have 17 colleagues to keep safe.
The rims will be bent shortly. In the interim, Carolyn was kind enough to take a few images out in the shop. Here’s a close up of simple Paua Abalone/Curly Maple/Ebony rosette. Keep in mind that the Italian Spruce top will have a “Buttered Toast” sunburst so the colors of the shell and contrast of the maple will visually “pop”.  She also managed to take an additional shot of the back with its African Blackwood backstrip. You can begin to get a sense of the figure, pre-finish. The set obviously comes from an walnut orchard grafted stump. The two pin knot vestiges near the outer portion of the lower bout will likely filled and stablized before the body is closed.  More when I get it…

Woah. How did this sneak past me...having a G.A.S attack! My last build that was Italian/Walnut had such a lovely tone, scale length proved to not be my preference....still miss it dearly.

Roughing a Neck
I received another photo update from Carolyn and the SCGC shop today.
Santa Cruz, being a “small shop” that makes about 400 guitars/year has incorporated CNC into certain repetitive operations such as the rough creation of necks. The roughed neck blank still left large along its middle section with features to locate the Ebony fretboard and for subsequent neck shaping operations. A body accessible, double action truss rod has also been installed and with a top shim along with a Peghead veneer.  A simple snake head shaped Gaboon Ebony peghead veneer appears to be a nice color match with the Maple purfled/African Blackwood binding. A Green Abalone “SCGC” min-logo has also been installed.  I believe that the next update should include the bent rims.
