RIP Gale Sayers
The Hall of Fame running back with the Chicago Bears died at 77. And what a runner he was... one of the most gifted athletes I ever watched. Eighteen inches of daylight.

a Legend
The bears had a multi purpose gem in that man. I was sitting in the bleachers at old Tiger stadium during his rookie season, passing the Southern Comfort and marveling at his skill. I watched him take a kick off below my bleacher bench and weave his way through the falling snow for a TD. That was when we new it would be a Sayers day! He had many more...glad I saw him play!

Sorry to hear that Gale has passed. It was always exciting whenever the Bears were on TV way back then because you just knew Gale was going to break at least one long run. I was a Browns fan when Gale was playing for the Bears and always found myself rooting for him when they played the Browns.

I've never been much of a movie buff, but when I was a kid I never missed a chance to watch "Brian's Song." My brothers and I would all cry our eyes out.

Very sad news.
Right around the time I graduated, he was the Athletic Director at my alma mater, Southern Illinois University. I met and photographed him a couple times and always found him to be warm, kind, and almost a little shy too. RIP PJ

I was somewhere in the 6-9 age range during those few years he had on the Bears before he blew out his knee. I was a pretty insane football fan as a little kid. He was beyond amazing. I saw guys miss him that there was simply no WAY they could miss him. It was like they'd already tackled him and had him on the ground and he still made him miss. Amazing runner for far too short a time. Never the same after that knee...

Simply one of the very very best. A standard by which all others could be judged. Between he and Walter Payton, 2 of my favorite all time players and I hate the Bears!
