Doesn't the MSRP or list price of almost everything increase annually? Current supply chain issues beside..... I saw the street price of my Martin J-40 raise over the 27 years that I owned it such that I actually made ~$400 profit selling it used (if you discount the time value of money, inflation, non-covered warranty repairs that were necessary, etc).

That shop isn't going to turn around and sell your E8D for 1200. $1200 is MAP on a NEW E8D. They sell for 10-20% less with negotiation. They'll probably list it at $900. Maybe you can sell it outright for 800 or 900 if you're lucky.
Let's face it, shops want to sell guitars today, not next year so his suggestion about rising prices is probably 1/2 truth and 1/2 puffery. Go into a car dealership with a trade-in, and they'll inevitably say things that will try to inspire a sale in the near future based on some of the same puffery/truth about rising prices with the new 2021 models. By the same token, that salesman will make it seem as if you couldn't give away your trade-in, and the dealership is doing you a favor to take it off your hands. Ok cars aren't guitars but sales is sales.

I tend to agree with Uncle Jesse. $700 isn't a bad trade-in price at all for your E8D. You can certainly wait until next year, but the current price of that E20D-TC is only going to look better by then...

I just want to quantify the answers so I understand.

A 2020 E20D-TC.. In 2021, will go down in price. Not a 2021 E20D-TC, the 2020 sold used in 2021 will go for less then today's current price for a new 2020?

Also, I was turned onto a 2019 E20D-TC for a very reasonable price. I've searched and searched...

Besides 1 year is there any difference between a 2019 E20D-TC and a 2020 E20D-TC?

This is right on and matches up with the kind of math I was doing when you and I discussed a trade, goodry.

Yeah, Im beating a dead horse.

I think he miscommunicated what he was trying to say. When he quoted me a price for the current year model... I said alright... Considering I'm not going to get close to what he wants for his 20tc... Ill sit on my e8d for a year and wait for the prices to come down.

What I meant was..... Prices in 2021 to come down on a used 2020 version... He said the prices will go up. I took that as.... Prices will go up in the used market ok that 2020... In 2021 when what he really meant was... The retail price of the 2021 version is going to be more expensive than the retail price of the 2020 version.

That miscommunication was why I started this thread - trying to see if anyone has seen a production model eastman... 20d-tc... go up in price in the used market above what it sold for retail the year before. Ie 2020 retail being $1600, 2021 used market on that same 2020 $1600 guitar increasing instead of decreasing.
