Andrew York - Waiting for Dawn
Finally, here's a long-awaited addition to the YouTube channel! This time, we have the lovely and tranquil piece, Waiting for Dawn, by the American Grammy-award winning guitarist and composer, the one and only Andrew York! I've always enjoyed the simple yet melodious nature of some of Andrew's music. It achieves a level of purity that makes the music really accessible, both as a listener and as a player. In fact, I first played this piece all the way back in 2008, when I was only 10 years old! Feel free to give the younger me a visit! https://youtu.be/gpOMucA6XSE My Guitar - Altamira N3 Double Top (2020) Hope everyone's having a great start to the week, and that you all enjoyed the long Easter weekend! Warmest regards, Kevin Loh |

Kevin, that was beautiful. Thanks for sharing. The guitar sounds great.

Like a lot of great guitarists who compose their own music, Andrew has a way of always finding the best possible combination of notes to express the sentiments in his compositions. It makes memorizing them easier as well. Thanks again for posting this, and I'll check out your younger self playing this tune too!

Andrew's music pretty much defines the term "earworm" for me.
Some are seemingly very simple but they have that "hook". Furthermore, try and get near his "feel" and you'll be trying a looooong time. The obvious example is "Home". It was a friend playing his music that got me playing nylon guitar, which I now dedicate 90% of my playing time to...and 90% of that is to Andrew's music. Lovely job here: I learned Waiting for Dawn many years ago. It's typical of Andrew's contribution to the oeuvre. John Williams recorded it also - very interesting to compare the two versions. Trying to get near his feel is one of the things I love so much about working on his music, and "Home" is definitely on the agenda. One thing I've noticed is that it is easier to play his music while not looking at the fretboard. Everything falls into place neatly anyway and it opens up a whole new level of "hearing" the music as you play it. That helps a lot with feel too in my view. Kevin has a similar style too. I'm becoming a convert.
