I bought a couple of these a while back. As said above, the spring is very strong. Be careful—I took a little bite out of a neck with it.

Good one! Maybe I should read what I write more carefully before I post it

Q: Why does Dracula make an inexpensive date?
A: Because he eats necks to nothing.

IMO, there are few if any bad capos, but there are almost always better capos. Buy the inexpensive capo and see how it works for you. I have capos that cost as little as $1.50 off of eBay that work just fine. In fact, I like that capo better than one of my $20 capos. I also have $150 capo that I like a lot more than my other capos, but it doesn't work well on my electric with flatwound strings, so for that I use a $25 capo.

With the inexpensive capo you find what you like and don't like about it and then when you have a little more capo experience you can maybe spend a little more for something that meets your needs better later on.

BTW, you'll find nearly as many capo opinions here as there are members! Here are my favorites, from most favorite to least favorite:

G7th Heritage cradle capo, about $150
Paige cradle capo, about $25
Shubb Standard capo, about $20
Dunlop trigger capo knockoff, about $1.50-$3.00

I have others, but these are my favorites.

Default Is this capo ok?

OP here again.
On reason I left the clamp capos is that years ago, genius that I am, I tried a clamp capo on my nice old classical when I could not find an elastic one handy...not only am I dumb, I don’t know my strength. To this day there are a couple of dents in the neck where I screwed down too tight.
By the way. Today when my local luthier, Tommy Ray Teague, was inspecting my new/used Eastman, he found some slight indentions in the lower edge of the sound board. He said it was from closing it with the strap still on it.
Hard to see so no harm done, but remember to take care of your toys.

I’ve tried both and many others and agree with this advice. The Shubb is still my favorite by a long shot.

Edit: when I say I’ve tried many others, I am not including any of the very high priced models. They may be great but the Shubb is good enough for my purposes.

I like capos in general that have some form of adjustable tension. I have a Shubb and a couple of the NS, even the $4 all-plastic model is very good I think. I gave away one of my Kysers and I have another.

What I'm looking for is some type of capo that offers the adjustability of a Shubb AND the ease of the Kyser for keeping it on my headstock. I know there are plenty of models out there ... I just don't have one. Yet.

I am amazed at how these capos, even the ones with the adjustable springs, can detune your guitar. I have also used them on my electrics and I can tell you the capos will REALLY affect the thinner strings a lot. When possible I put the capo on with the lowest tension available to prevent buzzing and then do a quick retuning. But if I'm in a jam or live situation I don't have time to do that.

The mode here is you buy two Shubb A1s for the price of one pick. Then you'll be happy.

OP here again
Got one KLIQ and the two Amazon basics today in the same Amazon packet. All three should do fine for my purposes.
All three appear identical. Anyone want to bet that Amazon ordered exact copies from the KLIQ factory. [emoji848]
Thanks again for help guys.

I'll take that bet.

I wrote to Kliq some time ago about this:

Quote:
Do you make the Amazon Basics capo? It looks absolutely identical to your K-PO.
They replied:

We do not make it. Amazon Knicks off products all the time. This one is no different.

KLIQ Music Gear
If you look carefully at the two, there are differences. The milling marks inside the handle are cruder on the Amazon version:

And the angle near the hinge is a little different:

In a Tiny Desk video of John Prine shot a few months before his death, he was using a Dunlop elastic capo, and slid it up and down the neck without any readjustment or retuning.

I'm sure the OP will be happy with his new capos. If nothing else he will find out what he likes and dislikes about them, and that experience will guide him in a search for a new, more expensive capo, taking him down the same rabbit hole many of us, including me, have fallen into.

Likewise. I gave the Kliq to my wife's grandson when we got him a better guitar, kept the Amazon capos as backups, and currently use Thalias. Much more expensive.
