What is a flat pick that's also a thumb pick called?
I'd like to try some more but I don't know what to call them to look for them. They look like a triangle flat pick but it has the part that wraps around the thumb like a flat pick. Thanks.

The only two I know of in production now are the Herco picks that have been around for a long time and the newer offering from Black Mountain Picks.

The brand names have been posted but I don't know of any special name for these other than "thumbpicks."

Aren't they just called "thumb picks"? The Pick Shoppe website has most of the different brands of thumb picks for you to choose from:

The only exception I know of are the hybrids made for himself by Pat Simmons of the Doobie Brothers. Pat chops off the pick end of a thumb pick and slides a flat pick in under his thumb. It's weird but it works for him!

Flumb picks. I like it! Someone had to make up the words we use, so we now have a new word in our guitar playing vocabulary.
Thanks all for the flumb picks suggestions! I asked Cole McBride about the Flumb picks on his Black Mountain picks website, and here are his answers: Here are stats about Medium Gauge, Heavy Gauge, and Jazz Tipped picks. Jazz Tipped 1.5 mm nylon with beveled edges. Jazz tip for fast, frictionless alternate picking. Shorter pick length. Black, tapered ring for comfort. Heavy Gauge 1.5 mm nylon with beveled edges. Standard pick shape. Red, tapered ring for comfort. Medium Gauge 1.5 mm at the hinge, tapering to .7 mm at the tip with beveled edges. Standard pick shape. Feels like a .8 or .9 mm, nylon pick. Soft grey, tapered ring for comfort.

I have used the Black Mountain heavy and Jazz thumb picks and find the jazz pick the easier of the Black Mountains to use. Has a shorter depth similar to a Fred Kelly slick pick. I find it easier to use with a more mellow sound than the Ford Kelly pick.

Tiffer--Do you find that the Black Mountain picks stay on your thumb without slipping?

Then I came across Black Mountain and gave them a try. I have the heavy and medium and love them. To answer your question, they stay put and are not tight on your thumb.
