Thank you Roger!

How wonderful to hear from you! Thank you for your kind words! I'm so glad you thought these recordings came out well!

I have been reading with my wife outside in our little courtyard, so we have been benefiting from the sun today. I just came in to get some work clothes on so I could work in our vegetable garden and complete our planting. It's about 70°F outside, so it's beautiful here today!

Thank you for taking time to comment Roger! Much appreciated!

The succession progressively “blooms” especially when you start to play the Olson. Each had its own unique personality. The overtones and fullness of the Olson were really apparent.

Nice arrangement and of course very well played and recorded. That was fun listening for a spring Sunday morning.

Hi Bob,

Thank you for your thoughts and comments!

I hadn't realized that there is a tendency for the piece to bloom by bringing in the Olson, but I agree, that seems to be what happens on the video. It's just one of those serendipitous events that just happened with how I laid out the video recording when I put it together.

I have to note that I was surprised about all the overtones that show up in the Olson that I don't think I normally appreciate. But when you play the same piece on one guitar after another, all sewed together like this in video, a person really hears the difference.

Thanks so much for listening and taking time to comment Bob! Much appreciated, Bob!

Thank you Andy!

I appreciate your thoughts and comments!

It's interesting about your comment about my good ear for hearing altered chords... I have always thought that my "ear" wasn't all that great because I have been exposed to several people, including my own son, who are so much better than I am at hearing voicings accurately. I guess we are generally our own worse critics.

Thanks for taking time to listen and comment! I hope all is well for you!

I've constantly viewed your performances over the past months, and I like this one best. Everything about it works for me. Wonderful interpretation and expansion of the basic concept.

I prefer the sound of the Collings. Surprised me, as I've preferred cedar tops in the past.

Thank you H!

It's very nice of you to check this out and let me know your thoughts.

I like the sounds in this recording myself. I haven't concentrated on instrumental playing for some time, so it was nice to go back to what I was doing five years ago and play something purely instrumental again. Sort of remind myself that I can still play.

It was nice for me to pull out this Collings because I have been thinking about selling it, as I hardly ever play it. A lot of people like the purer tone of spruce over mahogany. I appreciate it and I do like this Collings OM1A, but I like the overtones of rosewood even more and so that's where my ears are drawn.

I'm glad you like this video. Thanks very much for your comments!

I was so intrigued that I sat down at the computer with a guitar to figure out how Carl was playing this piece. As I experimented around with this, I first used my Collings OM1ADB (DB means deep body or dread-depth body) because it is closest in sound to the Huss & Dalton OM that Carl was playing in the demo.

After that I tried other guitars I own and found that it was fun to compare the sounds. In this video I compare my Collings OM1ADB, my Santa Cruz OM/PW, and an Olson SJ. I hope you enjoy both this beautiful melody and the comparison of the guitars.

By the way, Carl Miner is a world-class studio musician and flat picker, while I am just an amateur, playing this song with my fingers. I do not compare my playing to Carl Miner's, I just wanted to borrow his beautiful theme. Also, I did not try to duplicate Carl's version of this song, but rather used his thematic ideas for my own version.

Thanks for listening and hats off to Carl Miner and his terrific demos for TNAG.

Nice Glenn. That looks like a fun project to try.

Thank you Barry!

It was a fun project, and as you know, it's always fun to learn something new. It helps each of us rediscover the guitar!
