Default What do you use to record rehearsals

(I have duplicatd this post in Electrified, please comment there.)
I would like to record our praise band rehearsals and save songs in mp3 format for future practice, possibly posting them on the church web site each week for the musicians. I use an MD player now, but it won't upload to the PC. Currently, I just use a stereo mic and I get a reasonable copy. It would be nice to have a foot switch to start and stop it. It might also be better to have it get a feed from the board for a better mix. The concern I have is that the person on the board wouldn't be able to see when we start a countin and start recording on time. Does anyone do this, and if so, what equipment do you use?
