Then at 6:20 he enters the "commercial for D'addario strings" mode when asked if he breaks strings. It's actually hilarious.

Yes, that was a fun commercial ...

EXP and Lifespans are currently my favorite coated strings (DR Dragon Skins felt pretty good too). If either of them want to sponsor me, or heck, just send me free strings, I'm happy to enter "commercial mode" for them in any videos I make

Every problem with a guitar string begins with the G.

Does anyone know why the G string on elixir strings is always the one to wear out

It doesn't like me. None of them do.

It's senses? Or at least a small shot of Decorum.

Besides, it's tasteless. (That's a Covid joke.)

I've used, and use, Elixirs on some of my acoustic and my electric guitars, and like them fine. I used to break strings fairly often, and now generally don't on six strings, even though I'm a fairly hard picker with heavy flat picks. I heard many stories back in the old Usenet days of Elixir G strings being especially weak, and some stories back then (decades ago...) that reported this was an early problem remedied in their early days. I never experienced that.
Actually I don't usually break strings, either the 6 or 12 variety. I fingerpick all my instruments using my nails as picks. I think that may have a lot to do with it.

I do however seem to be subject to the 'G' string fraying problem. Just a guess, but it may have something to do with the stress of vibrations and the small diameter of the string. All of my guitars currently wear Elixirs, and the most common gauge of the G string on mine is .025 (HD Light gauge), and it only seems to plague me on the 6 stringers. I use the HD Light gauge on my Grand Orchestra, both Grand Concerts, and both 200 jumboes. Throw in a Medium and a normal Light gauge for the other two, and they all have it to some degree. Seems to be the coating that's fraying, and always over the sound hole about where I am picking. I mostly pick with Thumb and 3 fingers; given normal finger assignments, the G string can be struck by both thumb and index finger in the same measure for maybe a little extra wear.

I have learned to ignore the fraying.

Bit of a side note here, I've known about Billy but this thread and that video has me interested in exploring more of his stuff. What a player! He seems to have a very cool personality too. I'll be watching more of his content.
