Default Fresh Strings=Buzzing?

Okay all you folks who are experts at this kind of thing...I changed strings on my Eastman E20D-TC from factory EXP PB 12's to XT PB 12's and all of a sudden have some buzzing on the D & G strings around the 3-7 frets. No saddle or truss rod adjustments.

Sometimes I will get that when I have an mis-seated endpin. Try unwinding the string, and reseating it against the bridge pin.

Thanks...I'll check that.

Tension diff could possibly be a factor, but having used both strings I'd think the XTs would be a bit tighter.

If you took all the strings off at once the neck may take some time to readjust to get a proper bow.

Failing to "stretch" (really "seating") the strings will do that until, after days or weeks, you've adjusted enough to gradually get rid of it.

I recently switched to lighter strings on my BT1 and I got a LOT of buzzing on just about any F note, specifically on D, A and G strings. I went back to Medium strings and all of the buzzing completely disappeared. With the light gauge strings, I re-seated them in the pegs multiple times, even went and bought some new bone pegs thinking one of the stock plastic ones were possibly the culprit. It was simply the strings. The harmonics were just right to make something within the guitar to buzz. Now, the BT1 isn't exactly the highest quality guitar in the world, so it is possible that there may be a defect in the bracing or something that could be vibrating. With the light gauge string change, the harmonics worked out perfectly to make whatever defect that is present to vibrate, specifically on F notes.......which was HIGHLY annoying.

During my adventure of trying to find the source of the buzz, I did notice that my D'Addario tuner was buzzing on fatter notes as well. That was an easy fix though, just take it off of the guitar.

This happened to me awhile ago. I had to give the truss rod a little tweak.

Maybe it's time for a new guitar?

Many years ago, I mentioned to my local guitar guy that I thought I heard buzzing with fresh strings. He said that maybe there was something about the zingy sound of new strings that sounded like buzzing. Just a thought, that may or may not be relevant.

This has not been a recurring issue for me, and I always do prefer the sound of new strings.

I have Jim’s phone number. I’m going to call and let him know his account has been hacked.

This has happened to me frequently over the years, on many different guitars. It always works itself out as the strings break in. I don't bother trying to understand the "why" of it, the fact that it always resolves itself is good enough for me.
