Sam Beam
Is this guy incredible or what?
If you don't know what I'm talking about, go to Youtube ASAP and search "Iron and Wine". Great stuff. If you like Nick Drake or Townes Van Zandt kind of stuff, I think you'll like it. I always get to grab a guitar and practice after listening

Good stuff...as long as I am not listening to it while driving late at night or something.

I really like Iron and Wine, but the new album has a lot of tracks that sound too cluttered.

Love it man, it's fantastic music! I've been trying to play a number of his songs but the progress is oh so slow.
I think Resurrection Fern is my favorite. We got the songbook and it is DIVINE. We have learned so much from it. It has peacock on it and is for guitar playing.

Speaking of resurrection — a thread from 2007!
Sam Beam/Iron and Wine is/are one of my favorites. Our Endless Numbered Days might be an all-time top ten album for me in terms of what has influenced my own playing and writing style. I saw them play live with Calexico after they did an EP together — probably was a year or two before this thread was made. Great show — the sound was incredibly lush when the two bands played together. It looks like they’ve done another record together that I’ll have to check out. I always thought it was cool that Sam Beam played Taylor guitars, and I’m sure that contributed in some small way to me getting one myself about the same time. |

The man's got a beautiful voice. "Tree By The River" is a sweet song.

You guys who like Iron & Wine should check out William Fitzsimmons... another modern folkie with a whisper voice who can write great songs. Probably a little more downtempo than Sam but excellent vibe to it all. I really like both of them when I'm in an acoustic-y type listening mood.
