Default Razo #10 Cocobolo / Alpine Spruce

This is Razo# 10 Build that I had Commissioned Jonathan to do and is up at Bat! So let the games begin. It is Cocobolo Back and Sides with an Alpine Spruce Top. The Cocobolo back and sides are a special quartersawn set with Sap that Jonathan and I picked out from Hibden(set # 1600). Jonathan expressed to me that he was excited about this build being as it is a similar combination of woods to his first build. Thus, being able to compare his first build to his tenth build and seeing how far he has progressed! It will have Dual bound elliptical soundports (driver side), Cantilevered Low profile Honduran Mahogany Neck, Florentine Cutaway, Ebony Binding, Ebony Bridge and Fingerboard, Black/Koa/Black Purfling, MOP side dot markers, FWI Bridge Pins,Gold Gotoh Tuners and LR Baggs Anthem SL Pickup. Other design items being determined along the way. Enjoy the Journey!

Razo# 10:

Top- Alpine Spruce
Back and Sides- Cocobolo with Sap (Hibden set# 1600)
Honduran Mahogany Neck- Low Profile
Ebony Bridge and Fretboard
Cantilevered Fingerboard
Florentine Cutaway
Bound Double O Upper Bout Sound Ports
Scale- 25.4” 14 Frets to the Body
Nut (Bone)- 1 ¾ “
Saddle (Bone) Spacing- 2 ¼ “
Bridge Pins- FWI
Gotoh Gold Tuners
Side Neck Position Markers – MOP
LR Baggs Anthem SL Pickup
Purfling Black/Koa/Black
Rosette-TBD

The Build has been started and here are the pics so far!

Sweet! His builds are usually so interesting and aesthetically different (but very pretty), and it's so much fun to see these progress. It will be a pleasure to watch.

I am really enjoying building Boyd's guitar, like boyd said it is very similar, as far as wood choices to my very first build. Having said that i wanted to have some fun with it as well, boyd gave me free range of the design process, so for fun i thought to myself "what if i try to recreate the rosette?" so the new rosette is somewhat of a new an improved version of the first. Just FYI, i completely messed up on my first rosette, i cut and routed it by hand, and then sanded through my rosette veneers. it had somewhat of a tortoise look before i did my finish sanding and completely sanded through most of it. Its fun for me to look back on my very first build and see where it all began! I am sure almost all the luthier on here have memories of their first (good or bad)

but i will leave y'all with a couple pics of my first guitar, which now serves as a remembrance.

Here is an update on the progress of the #10. I just received more pics of the build from Jonathan last night. He has so far completed the Rosette which looks absolutely fantastic, Voiced the guitar which he has used a new technique for him so that it will be more responsive and closed up the Box.

Next up will be ebony binding and we decided on amboyna purfling, the end graft and top applique.

Enjoy!

Hi all,
Just got these pics from Jonathan a few hours ago. The Headstock is Coco and Guitar and Headstock are bound with Gold purfling and Black ebony binding. Jonathan has also beveled the Fingerboard down by the Sound Hole. Almost ready for the Spray booth. I can't wait to see it with finish on. This build is exceeding all my expectations!!
