Default Here's To The Essential Workers...!

Prison guards, internet, electrical companies, LEO, doctors, nurses and on and on.

Not everyone can "shelter in place".

God bless us all.

Great Thread. I was listening to local talk radio yesterday and the host was saying how important the grocery store workers are. Many of them make minimum wage and they're currently on the front line facing covid-19 with everyone they come in contact with.

Interesting point. I was thinking recently about actors/actresses who portray cops in movies and TV series. They make way more than the people who actually put their lives on the line for relatively little money. But, then, combat pay when I was in Vietnam was only $50 a month (extra on top of the $300 a month at my then pay grade). It does seem that those closest to the danger get the least pay.

I was thinking about packing house workers. Talk about grocery store shortages!

Thank you.

One of the sweetest things I've seen this week is attitude displayed to our cashiers and cleaning staff. Some some kinship or appreciation from the many healthcare workers near one of our stores. Gratitude from high end customers who often pay no attention to them.

Someone who was a middle school pal is a truck driver for a courier firm. His Facebook posts have in essence said people are showing appreciation where he doesn't usually get it. You can just see that overall his posts are move positive.

I hope the spirit continues because we have a lot of matters to address and this is just the beginning.

Yes, and in many of those cases in today's covid-19 world those workers can't choose to isolate at home because they need to money, so stocking the food shelves it is. Thank-you to those people.

Who would have considered UPS, FedEx, Amazon, GrubHub... as essential a month ago. Let's not forget the oft-ignored sanitation workers who are getting our trash out of the way.

A big thank you to all those working their respective tails off during this time of crisis! We are finding out they are worth far more than they are being paid.

Also, we should include all those volunteers out there helping folks. Around here, we have a non-profit program called "Meals On Wheels". My wife drives for them when the weather is good since she can't during the winter with her own disabilities, and we support them financially. These folks are really stretched right now, delivering more meals than ever. There are several folks in our condo building who benefit from this program.

I am sure that there are many other programs nationwide doing this kind of thing too, not to mention individuals who are now taking it upon themselves to do likewise for neighbors.

Despite the news of price gouging and whatever else some folks do to take advantage of the situation, we are hearing much more about the heroes stepping up to help out.

My wife is a certified pharmacy technician. She spends her days swimming in the sea of public bacteria and infection. She's home today with what looks like the flu.

Indeed. You’re right, Murph.

When I got tossed from office to home, I thought of what a large percentage of folk can’t work from home. Salute to them.
