Sorry if this is a dumb question Ryan, but how do you decide when "enough is enough" on a brace? Flexure? Tapping?
Thanks guys.

Colin, not a dumb question at all. Flexing and tapping are both great ways to get an idea where you should stop carving the top as a whole. Some luthiers use other methods such as incorporating tone generators and deflection jigs to tell them enough is enough. For an individual brace though it comes from the experience of finding where you want your peaks and valleys, the height, weight, and thickness of the braces, and if you can distinguish a difference when you try other methods. Like most luthiers, we fall in the path of a tradition of bracing that we have then modified. We did not create anything out of whole cloth.

Steve and I have a sound that we love and can replicate using a set bracing pattern with set parameters. Having carved about 150 tops (braces not archtops) in the last 15 years, it’s now just a matter of looking at the brace to know when it’s right, but I still use calipers to make sure everything is how it should be.

Bruce, we agree about Limba as well. We’re anxious to see if this one follows suit.

Closed the box on the guitar today. Here’s what it looked like before the lid was closed.

Coming together beautifully. Tony McManus spending a half hour on Tom's Kinnaird OM with SE Asian Dalbergia at BIG gave me an even higher level of appreciation for how well your deep OM works with rosewoods. The new owner of this one is beyond blessed.

Yes, he really liked that guitar and of all the guitars he had to choose from to play on Saturday night, with no communication with me, that was one he chose. He put that one in DADGAD and it is not a fan fret or anything beyond standard specs and used that for his DADGAD songs.

I think that was quite an honor for that Kinnaird and the human Kinnaird and Middlebrook!

Thanks guys! Yes, it was quite an honor to hear Tony play one of our guitars. And to hear what he can bring out of a guitar was just amazing.
Tom, maybe we could twist his arm to come back next year?????
