Default 9 String bottleneck slide guitar "The Water is Wide"

This is a version of the classic Americana melody, "The Water is Wide" performed on a custom built 9 string parlor guitar. The guitar is based on the old Lyon and Healy 9 string from the early 1900's; a cheap ladder braced birch guitar that was originally ladder braced with a floating bridge.

I was given one of those old guitars in pieces as a gag while I was performing a show in Illinois years ago and decided to re-store and modify it. I added X bracing and a fixed bridge. The resulting sound was amazing and the warped neck was just right for slide guitar.

In 2010, I met with luthier Tony Klassen who was so taken with the guitar that he offered to build a new version at cost. I chose Ziricote for the back and sides and Adirondack Spruce for the top. it's built with Larson style bracing and details.

This track is off my new release,'The Last Day of Winter".

I'd love to hear your comments, feedback etc. Hope you enjoy it.

Hi folks,

I thought this was set to alert me to replies but apparently I was wrong! I just came across these now. Pictures, certainly! I'll try to post it here (my first time doing an image).

You can also view ALL the cool guitars I used on this project (some 17 vintage instruments) at my website www.chrisvallillo.com. Just click on "Expanded Liner Notes" at the bottom of the home page.
