My rendition of Paul McCartney and Wings “Let ‘Em In” which opens with the classic 8-note “door bell” riff. For some reason, those 8 notes took me longer to figure out than the basic chord progression!

The Water is Wide. Blind Blake’s Rag, which is something I picked up off the web somewhere.

Yea, talk about staying power!

I recently finished up a fingerstyle arrangement of Bohemian Rhapsody and now I'm working on one of Going to California. This one is interesting for me. I mainly hybrid pick (a habit I picked up playing lead in a country band), but decided to go this one straight up fingerstyle. It's taking longer because I've never tried to play without a pick before, but it's really rewarding because I'm thinking this may open up a whole new world on the acoustic for me. So many times I got frustrated and almost said screw it and went for a pick, but I stuck to my guns and it's (slowly) starting to come together.

This past week I have started learning Lay Lady Lay. For some reason I have been on Bob Dylan kick.

Now I'm working on the following finger style tunes:

CGDGAD:

The Fair Flower of Northumberland
Mairi Bhan Og
Cairn Water
The Willow Tree
Skye Boat Song
Pretty Maid Milking a Cow

And later on this week I'm going to cycle in the following DADGAD tunes:

Si Beag Si Mor
Citi na gCumman

I've recorded some of the above before, but I want to build a "set" list even though I don't play out.

What are the last few songs you learned?

"Have You ever seen the Rain" by John Fogerty and his family, social distancing version.

I usually only try to add one song at a time. Sometimes they don't work out. This one did. Nice little walk-down over some chord changes in there. Now I need to fancify the intro, add an outro/coda, and put in an instrumental break. Well at least an intro and an outro for starters.

Since this is another resurrected thread, maybe someone should put a few of these recommended (?) songs on an album and call the band 'Lazarus and the Walking Dead'.

And it's part 2 of the thread! The first time I asked this question the thread got so long the mods shut it down. It is here:

I hope they don't do the same with this thread; it's great to see all of the song choices in one place.

I'm busking once a week this summer (to fight corona boredom) and i havn't a lot of modern songs and never lissen to radio.

So I googled most played songs 2019. I can't believe how horrible modern music is. I see you guys mention Ed sheeran guitars but when I lissen to "perfect" I can't understand how he is popular. The voice is so monotone??? (a lot of modern singers are). I prefere dylan or Tom Waits anyday.

Anyway, among all the **** I choose "Shallow" from a star is born. It is a more traditional song and is easy to do acoustic.

Since gigging in my neck of the woods died out until very recently, I took the time off to work on new material, pushing myself a bit by learning several pieces arranged by the late Michael Johnson that I thought I'd never be able to play.
Imgene (Gene and Paul Nelson)
Gee I'm Glad I Worried About That (W.T. Davidson)
Love Is A Cross (Hugh Prestwood)
Rollercoaster Run (Hugh Prestwood)
Learning How To Love (Hugh Prestwood)
Bristlecone Pine (Hugh Prestwood)

This sure is a good and popular thread! Thumbs up for OP!

Latest song that I started playing and singing, "You Belong To Me" by Bob Dylan. I googled the title and watched YouTube videos on this song and realised it's been used in the movie Shrek, which I didn't watch. I recently heard Bob Dylan singing this song (played as background music) while watching a Korean movie. I was drawn to the unique way he was singing it, a little like Kermit the Frog and a little like the Chip-monks.

I'm late to the party. You people know this old song right?

I LOVE playing Another Day. For a songwriter [McCartney] who'll tell you he doesn't know the names of all the chords (or read black dots on paper), he sure creates some fun songs to play.

Can you you sing it too? Any chance you're in Oregon? It would be a hoot to roll out that tune in an open mic (someday) with another player.

In a similar vein, McCartney co-wrote Veronica with Elvis Costello. Another fun one to play.
