New Guinea Walnut sounds interesting. Not much info about it out there what made you choose it?

Restrung the Taylor Big Baby last night, and it sounded great. It got me really excited for my Halcyon. I thought, "wow, if this guitar can sound this good, what on earth is this OM gonna sound like?!?!"

According to Ed I'm 6 starts away. No idea what that means time wise. The wait gets harder the closer it gets!

I love my walnut AJ. I have a rosewood Larrivee. I don't really like mahogany or maple (appearance only they sound great) I wanted something different and I don't recall Ed building an SJ yet and I read an old thread where he described building the SJ as a finger picking guitar. Ed had some Spanish cedar which was interesting and he then offered New Guienea Walnut. As for the wait, I don't mind, the guitar is worth it.

I was going with Black Walnut but told Ed I didn't want the sound leaning towards Mahogany--I had heard Walnut usually falls somewhere in the middle of Mahogany and Rosewood tonally. He brought up Bubinga and Wenge as possible alternatives and after doing some reading I decided I'd try out the Wenge. People made some comparisons to Brazilian Rosewood and since I'll never be able to afford one of those figured I'd try Wenge!
From what I read it is a PAIN to work with. Lots of splinters and pores develop that need to be filled. But seems like the general consensus is that the final product is worth it. Hoping Ed will be able to do some magic!
