Default Plate Mate, slightly off dimensions

Would a 2-1/8" (2.125") plate mate work for a small guitar w an E to E spread of 2.1488" (listed as 54.58mm)?

The difference between what's available & what I think I need is 0.023819"/0.6050026mm which is roughly 0.1mm per string
(0.6050026mm ÷ 5 = 0.12100052mm).

This is for a newish Romero Creations Baritone Guilele for Steel strings, bridge plate still intact.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think so. I think the all the pin holes need to align.

Drill/file to match.

If intact, why add Plate Mate?

It's prophylactic - keeps the plate from getting chewed up in the first place. I tried one and found it changed the tone and quieted my guitar, so I pulled it out.

No answer for your question Wukulele, but that Romero is a sweet instrument!

If you want to protect the bridge plate then slotting the pin holes is better.

Correct - that's what I did after the plate.

Yes, thanks! The sound is pretty dreamy, especially for the size. Am tempted by the nylon version also (though am a bit picky about retailers for this).

Both of these responses are very helpful, thank you.
Based on what I saw online this afternoon, am sorta leaning towards having a luthier slot the pin holes vs buying tools, etc. Like ChrisN said, it's prophylactic so I have time... thoughts & ideas welcome.

Cheers...

OP: if you're not going to either build your own or serially buy and sell, think you've got the right idea, pay somebody for the job and be done with the question. Consider a set of unslotted bridge pins the luthier might be able to supply as long as the pins are out anyway. That would close the circle on the job, too.
