The amazing John Doyle ...
and the equally amazing Cathal McConnell as well ...
The whole concert by John Doyle was one of the best I have ever seen, the video features an impromptu, totally unrehearsed appearance by Cathal McConnell, whose tunes John accompanies faultlessly, the highlight of the set being at 4.04, when John changes from chordal accompaniment into note-perfect single string flatpicking in unison with Cathal's whistle... pure magic. John Doyle's tuning btw (bass to treble ) is CFCGCD. |

Several years ago, I got an instructional CD he put out in Europe. He kept talking about using a "tree cord trick" for rhythm which gave me many a "what the..." moments.
One of my favorite Doyle pieces... |

I know I'm rehashing an old thread...but I just saw John Doyle this afternoon at The Cradle of Forestry in Pisgah Forest, Brevard, NC. HOLY SMOKES! That was an amazing experience.....I'm blown away. What a gifted performer!
