NGD Yamaha FG800M
I’ve tried out a couple of FG800/ 820/ and 830(s) in the past just out of curiosity, and all have gloss poly finish which protects the guitar well but noticed a few years ago the matte finish (M designation) were more responsive (I previously had owned a FG700M), so when the 800M became available in shop I plucked a few strings and strummed a few chords, and the guitar just sings and brought it home.
PM me if you’re interested in pictures to post/ I’m tech incompetent |

Congrats! The 800 series is really wonderful. I had an FS800 and traded it for a FS-TA. Gotta love the scalloped bracing Yamaha incorporated into the 800’s.

The indoor humidity is low here so I’ve put away the Martins. |

Since the Yamaha came into the house my Martins have had less playing time in general!

The fret ends on the 800 aren’t noticeable on the side of the fretboard at all. So smooth, the best I’ve seen at any price. |

I love the sounds of the Yamahas I have had my hands on - AC3M, APX600, FG800... The only issue I have, which I never knew until I tried, was with the nut width. After I tried the 1.75 I cannot back.
Congrats, there are great sounding and looking guitars!!! |

Yes, nut width is a consideration, although I like the 1 11/16” on the 000-15m as a point of variety from having all 1 3/4” so the Yamaha is welcome at my place. Although I prefer the FS concert size, the finish option and wider string spacing at the bridge of the FG sealed the deal. Last time I checked, matte finish FGs were not available in the U.S.

I have four Yamaha acoustics ranging in age from 40 - 50 years old. If yours ages as gracefully as mine it will only get better. Congratulations!

Thanks! It’s highy unlikely I’ll ever part with this 800, a previous matte finish 700 I owned had some minor imperfections (unusual for Yamaha) but was donated to a young person who was learning guitar - a small area of the Nato wood back of that one was paper thin in one place (‘brittle’ as Somogyi would say) but still had strength.
