Default What's the most you'd pay for a guitar

Like the title says, what's the most you'd be willing to spend for a guitar?

I recently went a little overboard at $2200 for my Brook Torridge. IMHO, for me, anything above that is sort of a case of diminishing returns - might have more bling and fancier wood but a $4K instrument is not going to give me double improvement in tone and playability and I don't need my ego soothed, so I'm happy with what I have.

Shouldn't there be something in the survey that says:

Your disposable income is _________

I already have too many but I guess I would still find a spare $3000 - $6000 if something special appeared before me.

Scharpach Vienna Apex:

A cool $30K+ and several years' wait; IMO one of the very few new guitars that justify the cost, as much a work of art as a fine musical instrument - and when Saint Peter shakes my right hand as I pass through the Pearly Gates, I want him handing me one of these with his left...

Yeah, depends on your disposable income, yes? Once, 300 bucks was a huge investment I wouldn't make, now a few grand is fine for the right instrument, and if I was a guitar-playing Bill Gates a few hundred grand wouldn't cause me to blink.

The most I've ever actually paid for a guitar is $2800 new. But I have come very close to spending more on a couple of occasions. One was a koa Goodall - maybe the single best acoustic I've ever played - for $6k in Anchorage. It was gone the next day after sleeping on it. The other was an Aussie boutique baritone for $8k at Healdsburg 2011 when baritone fever was running high for me. It was very impressive and made from exotic wood, but I just could not go that high for a niche instrument. At this point it is unlikely I'll ever spend much more on new guitars, or even new-to-me guitars.

I do recall the days when $235 was a lot to spend on an early guitar.

I voted $3000.00 and under but I would never pay that for a guitar. While I like nice things (who doesn't) and that includes guitars, there are more important things than a $3000.00 guitar or anything close to it in my life. On the practical side of it and has been mentioned here time and again by many members, you don't need to spend that kind of money to get a really good guitar. A used Alvarez, Eastman, Godin family, Yamaha and others have great guitars for less than $1000.00.

Nearby 3k$ CAD Did it twice... A brand new Taylor 510 in 2006 as a milestone in my life. Never bought brand new guitars at that price ever since as I am now looking for deals on used ones. The second time, two years ago, for a used Gibson L-00TV.
These days, we can find good solid woods guitars under 1000$...

I put 10K or over because I've not found the amount that stopped me from a guitar I wanted. I've not broken the 10,000 but if the right instrument came around, I would evaluate it for it's value to me.

I checked the 3K-6K box. While I've never shelled out over 1,500, I have seen a few in this range I'd love to have once the kids are through college+. Beyond that I don't think you're paying for tone, just added bling.

If I had all the money in the world I would spend it all but as it is I dont so 3,000 is my realistic limit.
