Default How Many Manufacturers Do We Really Need

Variety in out lives invariably make it interesting. That is a given. However, when it comes to many everyday things that most of us have, do we really need the plethora of manufacturers all vying for our business?

And when it comes to guitars, many of us like to own many and all different ones, albeit some, just slightly different. But again, do we need all those different manufacturers? Couldn't we get by with a dozen or a little less or a little more? Which ones would you deem necessary to keep?

How would you propose we control the number of manufacturers you might deem acceptable?

I suspect this thread might not last very long.

It's a hypothetical question.

The marketplace decides. And I’m cool with that.

Necessary? None. Desired? All. Hence, the wonderful selection we have today...

Yes, we do, at least I do. I like to have a variety of guitars to ogle over on the internet and dream about owning or at least playing one day.

Yeah I know, I don't get out much....

It's really the simple idea of supply and demand. If a guy is not building decent guitars, not many will sell.
But as long as the builders supply us with quality instruments, and we buy them, then they will stay in business. The American/global way.

How did you come up with this question? I'm really curious about what put you in this frame of mind.

As far as I'm concerned we only need one. However, we have the world at our fingertips.

As long as there are people who can't find exactly what they want, my answer is...one more than we have now.
