I just started learning "Buckets of Rain" by Dylan and it's not too hard.

"Harvest Moon" by Neil Young is pretty easy and a lot of fun to play.

Living in the Country by Pete Seeger. It a little advances for a true beginner, but a nice song that's worth working on and fun to play when you learn it.

Jason Isbell - Cover Me Up.

One hell of a song. In drop d. A few flourishes here and there, but really quite simple.

The first song I played in an alternate tuning was Pachelbel's "Canon in D" in drop D. Very nice.

His original was actually in open D.
http://dylanchords.info/ (Sorry no direct link to the tab but easy enough to find it.)

Obviously it works nicely in drop D (I've arranged it myself in drop D too). Just saying!

The Beatles 'Norwegian Wood' was in drop D (capo 2).
If you want fingerstyle, so was 'Dear Prudence', but I'd call it more intermediate than beginner.

I agree Neil Young's 'Harvest Moon' is a great one (nice shapes high on the top 3 strings). His 'Ohio' was also drop D.

Plenty of Dylan tunes (all strummed):
Mr Tambourine Man; A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall; Masters of War; Desolation Row; It's Alright Ma; Broke Down Engine; etc.

Joni Mitchell: I Think I Understand; Winter Lady

Richard Thompson: Mingulay Boat Song (strummed):

He has a few fingerstyle tunes in drop D, but I wouldn't call them "beginner"!

A relatively easy fingerstyle tune is Eric Bibb's 'Saucer and Cup'.

There are obviously plenty of harder ones: John Martyn 'May You Never', Fleetwood Mac 'Never Going Back Again', various Bert Jansch tunes ('Blackwaterside', etc)).

Hi a1

For me it's any easy song in key of D or G.

All you have to do is figure out how you are going to finger the G chord, and Em, and how to avoid playing open strings which don't fit the chord…and the rest kind of takes care of itself.

The affected fingerings are any which involve the bottom (bass) string. And if you have always played all 6 string at once, that would have to be altered so you don't play all six when the bass strings doesn't fit the chord.

Toby Walker has two versions (advanced and intermediate) of "Railroad Bill" in Drop D on his website. That's a great song to begin with.
