There are better super jumbos available from the likes of Guild, for example.
If this one is a sonic dud, I might be the right home for it -- I'm the worst heathen when it comes to guitar sound, they all sound about the same to me. It's my singing that needs the work... and my songwriting. If I can get those up to speed hopefully no one will notice a little lack of luster in the guitar sound and be wooed by its spectacular looks!

A little late to the party obviously. I'm getting ready to buy a new 2019 Gibson SJ200 standard. It is expensive but also the best sounding one in my local music store. I am more of a finger stylist and this particular guitar sounds fantastic for that. Lots of sustain and very even sounding. I've been playing for over 50 years so I think I have a handle on what works for me.

Default Love the SJ-200

I can't see why anybody can say anything negative about the Gibson SJ-200.
Mine sounds awesome and I also own a Guild F50R and a Taylor 818E.
The SJ-200 is the King of the jumbos.
Most people I believe Try one that sounds dead, it is because it has old or bad strings on it. I have to say you have to put new strings on them every 5 months or less. (20 hours of play time) but You should do that with any guitar. Love the SJ-200.

Could someone talk me out of an SJ-200 Gibson?

Nope. Wouldn't dream of it.

It's a wonderful, if pricey, instrument.

And it's a destination all by itself.

PS> Freely admit I'm biased on this issue. I got mine, a rosewood one.

My Greven is basically a SJ-200 - Gibson was out of business
at the time and i loved the big sound - John had even bought the
soundboards from the then defunked Gibson company.

Their not for everybody -even im in a love hate relationship with my jumbo -
sometimes its just to big of a sound for me -and their not for everybody -
I would say that you really need to spend some serious time with one
and be sure about it - Gibsons can be very different from one another -
their not a brand I would order and hope i got a good one.

I ended up loving the one I got, 1998 Elite model. Wonderfully rich and pure sound. I record with it a lot!

You want me to talk you out of it?

Don't buy one. They are horrible, smell like dirty socks, sound like a detuned accordion, and are programmed to self-destruct within 2 months to the day after the warranty is up. These are not well-known attributes.

There, feel better?

You don't? Maybe you would then if you bought one and discovered that none of the above is true.
