Default Tools from Elmer Guitar

Anybody ever bought tools from Elmer Guitar?

Are their tools knock-offs of StewMac tools, or are they StewMac’s supplier?

I see a couple of posts on Reddit… https://www.reddit.com/r/Luthier/com...mall_luthiers/

I just placed an order and my credit card was billed from a company with a Chinese name. That doesn’t bother me much… I’ve long suspected that Stew Mac outsources EVERYTHING and just marks it up ridiculously. This could just be cutting out the middle man, or at least a smaller middle man.

PLUS: Elmer offers FREE SHIPPING. Stew Mac charges a lot for shipping unless you join their Stew Mac Max program.

I’ll post an update once I receive my order from Elmer Guitar (assuming I receive my order).

I bought a few when I was gearing up some years ago. Those are knock-offs but work well enough most of the time. No way are they producing stuff for SM as the quality of the build is noticeably lower. I still buy from them from time to time, mainly for tools that I don't see myself using very often.

SM's quality and above all lifetime warranty has made me a very faithful customer. I got a Peakmeter replaced this week because the older one, which has seen a LOT of use, was beginning to act up. No questions asked apart from are "have you checked that the batteries are OK". And no postage fees on warranty sends.

I bought a fretboard slotting jig from them for 1/4 of the price of the Stewmac one which looks identical. It works great, no complaints. Shipping was free and if I recall correctly it took about a week to get it.

Ordered a “jaws” type handheld fret press and a diamond fret file on Friday, and it arrived on Tuesday. FREE SHIPPING. The diamond fret file is practically identical to Stew Mac and the Jaws fret press is a little simpler than Stew Mac’s (that might be a good thing) and cost 1/4(!) of what Stew Mac charges.

I’d say Elmer Guitar is good alternative to Stew Mac.

Yup. Copying and then selling for a lower price is a thing.
