Eastman PCH1-D $279, this looks intriguing. Wonder if I can find one in the twin cities to try it out.

I guess it depends on what you consider "budget". If I was looking for a beach guitar (I already have a decent one), I might look around Reverb for a Larrivee D-02 or -01. No binding or cosmetics, but all-solid wood construction, ebony f-board, 1 11/16" nut, built like a tank without sounding like a tank.

You should check out the Yamaha LL6M. Sweetwater has a couple of them available right now. They sell for 450 bucks. They are really nice sounding guitars. I really cant believe how good these guitars sound for the price that they sell for. If you don't like it you can send it back.

How about a Martin DX series? Might have to be used, not entirely sure on current pricing. The HPL back and sides Should withstand our northern winter dryness, and they sound ok when set up well. (Can’t go wrong with the aforementioned Yamahas, tho’)

It is futile to do with more that which can be done with fewer. Hmmm.

The Yamaha L series nuts are way narrower than advertised - in fact I'd say they are even narrower that 1 11/16".

If I were you OP, I'd go for the Eastman that's been mentioned or a Martin X series, even unplayed, if it's just to get you through winter.

AC240 = a great guitar at a great price - but not a dread

Harley Benton (the house brand of Thomann online retailer) does quite a few wide-nut acoustic guitars.

This dread is solid cedar top and solid mahogany back and sides with a 45mm nut and is 277US$:

They do the same model with a cutaway for 322US$.

This dread has a 48mm nut (though reviews suggest that that is actually quite a generous description and that it is more like 46mm) and is 158US$

I like its tone in the YouTube videos I've seen.

It's hard to beat the Seagull S6 for a beater guitar!

I would also suggest keeping your eyes open for an older Yamaha FG. One of the models with the truss rod adjustment at the headstock. If one pops up on your local CL that doesn't need a neck reset you can probably grab it cheap. These guitars are plywood but they're lightly braced and sound great. I got a made in Tiawan (1975) FG165S-1 earlier this year and strung it up with lights. It sounds amazing. Tons of bottom end. Every bit as good (if not better) than most solid wood guitars. Nut width is just barely shy of 1 3/4 inches (something like 1.738), but it feels fine to me. Good hunting!

I would look at the 'Gull. I have a 25th anniversary model S6 (spruce variant). Nice wide neck at the nut, and I bounce back and forth between this and my other guitars with 1 11/16 with no issues. The cedar top/ wild cherry back and sides standard S6 is a great guitar and within your budget.

AC240 is actually 1.77. I might've grabbed one (they sound great!) but the fretboard was just wide enough to seem to be a bother - noticeably wider than my 1.75 Eastman.

Besides, the AC240 isn't a dread - it's an OM.
