Default What guitar was "the one"?

I bought a Guild M-20 last year that I was kinda on the fence about. The past month I have been telling myself this is "the one". I love it! Late at night I can just sit down and play it without annoying the family. It is also really comfortable and easy to play. I have 6 other acoustics that I'm thinking of selling.

i have a couple. I will never get rid of the OM in my signature if I can help it, for musical and sentimental reasons (and that is saying something, as I am not sentimental in general). But I play a fair amount of classical music and like a change of pace, so it is real hard for me to see the Chris Carrington in my signature ever going.

That is great you found "the one". If you do not have sellers remorse, sell the ones you are not playing anymore.

I continue to have affairs but my soulmate is my Martin OM21...which ironically is the least expensive of all my guitars.

There isn't for me. I've got too many (hence the guitars for sale) great guitars that each could be the one. The one that isn't going anywhere, and even my wife says "you're not going to sell the..." is my Brazilian Stephen Kinnaird which makes angels cry - and not just because I'm playing it.

Can The One be two? My Bourgeois Slope D and Martin D-41 are the ones for me.

In 1975, after buying, selling, working up, selling everything to pay the mortgage and starting again I achieved a 1973 Martin D35.
I'd known of it through two owners - people that I'd worked in bands with.

I kept that D35 until 1996 i.e. 20+years. I still regret selling to to another friend who would never part with it, although he has not treated it well - it still sings like a bird and now needs a neck reset.

In 1998, I found my first Collings DS2h - the culmination of a long search, once I realised that I needed that I needed a wider fretboard for my flat-picking style.

It got damaged very shortly after buying it - broken headstock, but it got fixed and whilst scarred served me well and had in total, three refrets.

Something odd started happening to it when I was too ill to play it in 2017/8 and I spent a lot on it having work done, but - I guess we fell out of love, so I sold it on consignment earlier this year - another 20+ years.

Again, I now regret parting with it.

I'm now closer to 72 than 71, but I've put my other "favourite" guitars on notice that I might feel like moving them on twenty years from the time I got them - say 2030 for my DS1, 2031 for my other DS2h, and 2032 for my DS1ASB!

Definitely my Martin D-41. Gorgeous, great playability and superb tone. The backup guitars may come and go...but the 41 ain’t going anywhere.

You can't beat a good Guild, and that M-20 will only get better with time and playing.

I've had many guitars come and go, but have had my old Guild for 18 or so years now. It's a very special instrument, and I'm lucky to have found it.

I have yet to find 'the one' and I wonder if there even is such a thing for me. There have been probably three or four guitars over the past several years that I thought were 'the one' but they all end up going away. There are a few special guitars that I wouldn't mind having back if I ever saw them show up. A Martin Custom 000-18GE is at the top of the list. A little Martin 00-18 UMGF, an old, beat to heck Martin 000-28EC and a couple little Santa Cruz 00's in there as well.

My 1932 12 fret Gibson L1 is "the one". No wait a minute, that honor goes to my 1942 Gibson J50. On second thought . . .Dang, whose on first?

Electric wise, my 1960 Harmony Meteor w/Bigsby is untouchable. I've had Lots of Pre CBS Fenders, Custom Shop Fenders, ES-335's, Rickies... but none can compare to my Meteor for tone and comfort playing.

I currently have 7 acoustics and all are "the one". It would be impossible for me to select any one of them if I had to sell something.

I've been playing since 1964 and I'll be happy to play what I have all the way to the Finish Line. Current acoustic stash:

* '97 Martin D-45V
* '19 Martin OOO-18GE Custom (Deep Body option)
* '19 Martin D-18A '39 Authentic w/VTS
* '13 Collings D2H
* '14 Collings D2HA
* '99 Collings D-1
* '71 Guild F-312NT

I am 58 now and have been playing since I was in my early teens, but I have never found the "one". Currently my Guild F30 Standard (similar to a Martin OM-18) is my go-to guitar. It is just ergonomically easier on my aching joints and any of my other guitars, and also one of the least expensive in my small collection.

Well if I had to pick "the one" I would say it would be my D-28 Marquis, the tone and resident qualities match what I have been looking for in a Martin.

It never fails to put a big smile on my face when I hit an open G chord,not only does it fill the room with sound but I love the feeling of the back vibrating against my body as I play it.

I have always wanted a Guild D-55 and last year I finally got one. I would say that this is "the one" for me unless I find something that sounds, looks and feels better.
