Hung up my spurs
Signed a form today severing me from employment. May 31 is my exit date.
I still enjoy my job, my colleagues, and my students. But it’s time for me to ease into the sunset.

Congrats! I’ve been retired for a few years now. It’s a bit of an adjustment, but I could not be happier! Hope your last few months go by well (and quickly!)

Congrats on the upcoming retirement Jim. A lot of we retirees wonder how we ever had time to work?
When asked how I like retirement, I retired 11/2017, my answer is “the best gig I’ve ever had”!

Congrats, Jim. I retired in January 2023, so I'm still adjusting...
But as much as I loved my job, company, co-workers, and paycheck.... I'm enjoying having more bandwidth for things that are important to me. Family, health, music, etc.

Congrats! Take time to adjust to it but enjoy having won the race. I'm at 8 months and still adjusting yet enjoying every minute.

Retirement can be fun. It is for me. Long as you have something interesting to do (and, most of the time, someone to do it with).

Yeah, I enjoyed my job, but I also enjoyed not having to get up in the morning and go into work 5 days a week! Retirement is what we work for... At least that's how I look at it. Cheer up! Retirement is NOT pre-dead!

Congrats! I love reading all the retirement (or pre-retirement) posts here.
I can't wait. I have so many things I enjoy doing besides my work, which I also enjoy. I'm ready for more time spent on the non-work activities I do. So many things to do and enjoy in this world.....

Wow, Jim!
That's a very big change for you! I hope you are able to enjoy your retirement. It took me about five years to get used to the whole situation, and in the meantime I worked part time. It has been seven years now for me, and I'm finally comfortable with retirement. Best of luck to you Jim and congratulations! - Glenn

Congrats Jim, I pulled the plug coming up on three years ago and I just love it.
Having a strong hobby is something I have felt was a big bonus. It sounds like you still did like what you were doing so I think there might be more of an adjustment there that I had, I was ready as Freddy in the starting blocks to get out.

Congratulations! Three years for me and I am loving it. Oh, I am still consulted now and again if something comes up they have never seen before, and compensated well for my time. But I definitely have no plans to actually hold down another job.
The way it is now, to be perfectly frank, I don't know how I ever had the time to work. I am a busy, happy, and contented man. I do need to take a bit better care of myself... |

Congratulations! “Retirement” is the best job I’ve ever had.
It was an adjustment at first…I’d traveled pretty heavily the past 10 or 11 years. I was a true road warrior and loved it. Going from 100MPH to nothing was hard at first but the adjustment has been fine. Stay in touch with friends, read a book, catch up on 40 years of not enough sleep, make new friends. Heck, I even just got a little job at a public golf course behind the counter. 8 or 10 hours a week. You ran the race and came out on the other side…good for you!

Once you get the Social Security, pension, Medicare, Medicare supplement, drug plan and other paperwork in order it's great.
Up until then, you'll think it's more work than your job... |
