In this particular case I would say it’s not burned enough. Maybe another hour or so of exposure to the flame is what this bad boy needs.

Burnt finishes are a real thing. Look on youtube.
But only (I think) on solidbody electrics. They come out as a sort of tortoiseshell look. Or using a Japanese technique, I forget the name, that leaves a black finish. They both can come out pretty good, actually. Unlike the one in the OP.
