It's a master work, to be sure. With commitments to kids, friends, work, etc. I've been trying to shoehorn in as much time with this guitar as I can. It plays just like a Brondel should, which is to say completely effortlessly. The setup is flawless and the neck carve **** near luxurious.

The A-1 is a bigger guitar than the A-2, both in length and width and, in the simplest terms, the sound reflects the larger volume. It has that hollow, deep quality to the entire spectrum that comes with a larger body size. The mids and trebles aren't quite as punchy and projecting as with the A-2, but this is to be expected. What you gain is a sound with more overall girth, which was one of my goals, as well a deeper bass. That's not to say the bass on both my A-2s isn't deep because, truth be told, they have pretty big bass, but the character of the bass is markedly different. It sounds like it just carries more weight, a quality that is hard to describe really.

True to Laurent's overall tonal objectives, the guitar is still lightly built and loud. While the mids and trebles aren't as punchy as with the A-2 they are still, by the standards of most guitars I've played, very lively. And very much in keeping with Laurent's sound. They project, have a nice bite, tons of headroom (very important to me), and plenty of sweetness of the decay. It's not quite as wet (yet) as my Madagascar rosewood A-2, but I expect that it will add volume, overtones, and sustain as it ages. It is definitely more reverby and overtoney than my mahogany A-2. It really matches what I had in my mind's eye when I thought about making a "bigger" A-2.

Tonally, it is a masterpiece, which is what I've come to expect from Laurent, frankly. You never know exactly what you're going to get, but you learn to enjoy whatever that new thing happens to be. Laurent has delivered something fresh and exciting and has proved to me, once again, he's building the best of the best. It's one of the reasons when people ask me for advice on commissions, I push them either to Laurent or John Slobod.

I guess it goes without saying that the fit and finish and all that stuff is flawless, so I won't go over all that stuff.

Of all the guitars I played at BIG (and every one of them was outstanding), the Brondel that Justin brought was probably my favorite. Laurent has been able to capture the perfect mix of the traditional and contemporary and blend the two into one spectacular sound. Not an easy thing to do. Well done!

Oh, my curse word about the neck profile was bleeped out. You'll have to use your imagination!

Thanks for keeping the thread clean for the kids, dude.

What a knockout guitar!

So, what are you down to now, 2-3 hours of sleep per night?

I’m actually commissioning a guitar that will replace sleep. Details to follow.

Long overdue, but here are a couple of videos of this guitar. Open C tunings.

Thanks for posting. I enjoyed playing this guitar at Artisan some years back. It would be cool to check it out in quieter room

Nice! Thanks for sharing!

I've been jonesing for a Brondel since I played one at Luthier's Collection many, many years ago. One of these days...

It looks like the back and sides have a little flame figure. Very cool.

Oh man, it’s just perfect!
