Thanks again guys,
Here is an pix of the back from a couple of weeks ago. Sorry about the glare By the way, the neck is not as "orange" as that anymore. There were a couple things that I didn't like about the "feel" of the neck, so I took it off and reworked the neck a little. It was ok before, but now it is just right. It was also a good reason to take a little of the orange out of the color of the neck (which was also OK) but I like it better now. It was a pain to do all that work, but I rather have it right. I guess I will try to set up the lights tomorrow and take a better shot of the back (and the "new" neck.) |

Man John the ziricote you've been posting lately is stunning...probably my favorite tone wood visually.

Wow... I think that is the tightest spider-webbing I have ever seen. Truly, a mastergrade set you have there!!!

Umm, Bearclaw can be stiffer (and usually denser) than a straight-grained piece, but that is not the only attribute we look for. Also just because it is stiffer, does not mean I will automatically thin the top down more (I might) but it depend on what we are trying to achieve. There seems to be a quick response to bearclaw (in general) and it does tend to have ample headroom. Some people don't like the look of bearclaw, but I think it is cool. Overall, I like bearclaw quite a bit. (I will be building a guitar with a bearclaw top for the sonic sitka project, put that will be a story for another thread.) I also had chance to take a couple more shots of the guitar today, so here is another look at the back. And a look at the back of the headstock, (the neck has a satin finish) |

Awesome guitar but that headstock does look very special, not to mention the backstrap and that ziricote!
