I'd argue that Pinot isn't really "sweeter," it's just "lighter." Pinot is very low in tannins, so it sits lighter and doesn't give you quite as bad of a headache if you have a glass or two too many

You might really enjoy some Spanish reds, try a young Tempranillo or a Garnacha--a Garnacha is very fruity without being "sweet." Or a french Beajoulais. A Cabernet Franc would be another good pick--or even a good ol' Chianti.

Ahh wine, I spend more time drinking Reds and reading about them (I subscribe to Decanter mag and spend hourd on vivino) than playing guitars these days!!! Tasting sessions at local deli's and events are a useful way to narrow in on your preferences. When i first got into Reds i gravitated towards 'fruit forward' new world wines nowadays i find them far too sweet and prefer wines with a lot more acidity and tannin's. You may find your wine tastes change over time as well.

My favourite wines are from Italy and the left bank of bordeaux:

Italy:

Brunello di montalcino (some Rosso's from good Brunello producers can offer good VFM)
Barolo

Bordeaux:

Saint Julien
Pauillac
Saint estephe
Margaux

Whatever you drink just be careful, like guitars its a slippery slope, i used to think £20 was an awful lot to pay for a bottle and now i think under £100 is 'good value' and have a bad case of WAS (wine acquisition syndrome) for some Petrus!!! The wife doesn't agree...

Good to see someone else mention the Brunello....man is that stuff lovely. Way more than I pay for a "Tuesday Night Dinner" bottle, but for a more special occasion...yeah.

When the economy was still recovering, we bought a lot of great wine at a considerable discount and soon found ourselves 150-200 bottles over capacity. For a time, if you opened a drawer or cabinet in our house, a wine bottle would roll out. But now, we've drank through most of the excess, and we're getting closer to fitting all the remaining inventory back where it belongs. But we no longer have much "Tuesday night" wine left, so until we can stock up, we've been popping a lot of good stuff on weeknights.

Definitely W.A.S situation.

Such amazing wines! My last 10 bottles have all been brunello, I just love those dark, sour cherry notes. It’s hard to find a bad brunello to be honest although some are other worldly (e.g Cerbaiona).
