Default Holy cow! Kopp fixed...

I got a Kopp AJ not too long ago, I was so excited when
it showed up. I slapped on a capo and started playing a
song I'd just started to learn... BUZZ (kill)!... back-buzz, that
is, between the capo and the nut. I didn't know what it was, but
the Luthier found it right away.

He texted me today, it's ready! He put a new nut on it. The old
one was "glued in real good" he said ... it is crazy how much
work he has to do in there...

The Kopp is awesome. You can really dig into it. I'm going to like it ...

He's had my Ken Stika guitar for a long time. He gave that back to
me today, with new EVO frets, removed under saddle pickup and some
other stuff... it plays better than I ever remember...

Glad you got you Kopp AJ fixed Mike. A good tech/luthier is a great thing to have around!

When I brought my Kopp to him a couple of weeks ago, he showed
me a strung-up guitar he was almost finished making... I hoped to
take a picture of it today, I didn't even think about it then. But the
fellow he made it for had already picked it up.

There's another one there (somewhere ) partially done, a
"spec" guitar. I saw it last year when I was there, it has a three piece
Brazilian rosewood back. "When the shop looks like this, I can't
work on spec" he said... I told him I'd love to see it...

...this fella must be an ace luthier....with a great reputation....I say that because if I stepped onto a shop that looked like his I wouldn’t let him near any guitar of mine much less my Kopp.....I’m really glad he did you right....here’s to great luthiers regardless of their shop keeping skills...

My luthier's shop looks very similar. Maybe it's how they do things? He'll be working on several different things at once. While one guitar rests from an adjustment he'll work on another one. Then come back to the first one and do something else. We're pretty good friends so usually he'll do whatever it takes to get me in and out while I wait. But usually it's a K&K Mini install and a setup so it's a relatively quick fix.Anything more than that I'll leave it.

Yet he's the guy who had to fix my brand new Kopp

I'd sure like to play one of Kevin's AJ's. I have a K-35 about 12 years old that I picked up used and it's a great guitar!

Default That’s one busy workshop!

The guitars propped up along the bench are making me nervous. So easy for one to slip and they could all go down like dominos.

Spring-cleaning needed?

Let me know when you're headed down. I'm on the NE part of the coast just 25 miles south of the border with NC. Spend a lot of time down around and in Charleston and below in Beaufort/St Helena. Heart of the Low Country...a truly beautiful place. But I'm fond of your part of the state too. Don't get up that way enough?

I was talking to a friend about visiting Mike's shop and he mentioned
going there and seeing $50,000 guitars lying around with the necks
off... anywho... he "spring cleaned" my two out of the stack.

Will do. I don't often think about the Myrtle Beach part of the state :-)... I avoid
it when traveling to my sister's house in Shallotte ... her husband is
a real guitar player, not just a hacker like me...

Well during the season it can be a challenge especially if you're not familiar with the roads to avoid. I used to have a good friend in Shallotte and spent a fair amount of time up there. Maybe we could meet up there sometime? Be a lot closer drive. And with a little luck I could learn something from your brother-in-law?
