Seemed worth mentioning.

The greatest NHL PxP talent ever. There will be a hole in the hockey world! I wish him well.

Default Doc Emrick retiring (NHL broadcaster).

I know we have some Mike 'Doc' Emrick fans here. He just announced he's retiring. I had NJ Devils season tickets back in 2007-08 and I would watch the road games on tv (and the home games I didn't attend) and he was the guy.

We'll miss you Doc!

My second favorite play-by-play hockey announcer. Always enjoyed his broadcasts, and I'll miss that. Hope his retirement is rewarding and that his Pittsburgh Pirates improve enough to keep him entertained now that he'll have more time to follow them.

Hockey Hall of Famer Mike Lange, but I love(d) Doc's calls too.

Doc was the best. No one called a game better. Class act, hockey won't be the same without him.

I'm sad to hear that, but he's going out on top of his game as far as I'm concerned.

Regarding the Pittsburgh tie in with Mike Lange, Doc is apparently a Pittsburgh Pirates fan. Baseball here is nearly a joke but I love hearing when he comes to town and sits in on the local radio show to give his perspective on the Pirates as well.

Oh no! He was absolutely the best announcer. Nobody else came close. When he and Pierre were paired, that was a great hockey night!

I'm a Doc fan but Bob Cole was fantastic for Hockey Night in Canada. He did the tv games for ~45 years and before that was radio.

How long do you think Doc will be retired? I wonder if he'll do some commentary or a column or something like that.

Bob Cole was also a classic. Doc will continue to do some "essays" for NBC.

Doc is a legend. I used to be a Devils fan before the NHL came back to Denver. Our local Avalanche guy has pinched a lot of Doc's unique phrases, turning nouns into verbs ... Landeskog saucers one into the crease, Makar pancakes it to MacKinnon! My favorite game of his had to be the Avalanche game 7 victory over the Devils for the Cup in 2001. He was working for the Devils then but you would never have known it listening to him.
