Default Spencer Davis Has Passed

It is the time of the season for sure.
Spencer Davis, who formed the “Spencer Davis Group” back in 1963 has died at age 81 from a heart attack. The band had two big hits “I’m A Man” and “Gimme Some Lovin” both of which were in the top ten and covered by a multitude of people. Most notably, Steve Winwood was the lead vocalist in the Spencer Davis Group. He was 15 when he and his brother joined the band.
“Stevie” was a phenom and his career has been long and successful.
Those of us in our mid teens knew of Spencer Davis who was one of the first successful British “soul music” artists of that era.

Yeah, I heard that too. He was 81 I believe. I kinda spent an evening with him once.

He was playing an acoustic gig in the back room of a pub, wth Andy Roberts, but hardly anybody turned up for the gig but Spencer and Andy played for the few of us, and there was much chat as well, in between numbers. He was a fine blues singer, but a very humble mild mannered gentleman too.

Thanks for the music Spencer,

It's the ultimate case of "Don't Want You No More."

RIP Spencer Davis.

Sad day, indeed. Who can forget their biggest hit - a cover, but so what? I don't think there will be many who remember the original over this:

Memories for me too. One of my biggest favorites in the 60s. Remember seeing them on Top of the Pops (a lot like American Bandstand), and live at The Marquee Club.

His songs bring back so many memories for me as well. Who can hold still while listening to “ Gimme Some Lovin”?
